Now I know how they work from the excellent CT scan video I have to buy one, I really like simple engineering and I reckon it will last a lifetime and reward me in future when the complicated machines break down again.
I can see now why they brought one with them, as much as they were connaisseurs they still borrowed the Senseo machine to use on their chantier!

I feel content with what I've ordered, I like the design, it looks very compact and easy to use. I googled the model Hal mentioned and I'm sure it would make a bigger proper mug, but I don't like the look of the machine at all, it's way too big and ugly for me! Funny that when I started the thread I was looking for a machine to put in the écurie for staff and clients, but ended up buying a present for myself!

I remember those from the 60s when we had an Italian family friend living with us. I seem to think they came in different sizes. I've no idea what the coffee tasted like as I didn't begin drinking coffee until the mid 70s.

Those are the best but I have seen the handles melted off - using gas and the gasket needs replacing every one in a while...

Of course I've seen a perculator. I used to work in Italy, but I never saw a stove top one in all my time there, only electric. Must not have been in many Italian homes...
The only electric ones I have seen is huge ones for the catering industry or at US hotels for breakfast..

Someone is taking chancers advice.. wow.. I would have choosen one of the all in one machines from De'Longhi.. Brad Pitt is flogging one on TV now... It grinds the beans and doses it accordingly to which coffee or size you want.. No plastic waste from the pods, capsules.. The Italians know their coffee and how to make it..
Just like the peculator ( Italian). I cannot believe you have not seen one..
And yet the first coffee capsule machines I came across were in Italy - nearly 15years ago.

None of the Italian homes I visited had perculators, they used moka pots - they are 2 different things and make different types of coffee.
A moka pot forces pressurized water through the coffee grinds, after which it is collected in the seperate section at the top. This is real (Italian) expresso coffee.
A perculator makes steam which rises into the top section and condenses, then drips down through the coffee grinds and back into the same section you put the water in. The coffee gets stronger as it circulates and tastes like a French press or drip coffee.
The perculator I did see in Italy belonged to an English person and it was electric, as were any others I have ever seen, not that I've seen that many...I thought they went out with the Ark...

From reading about the Moka machines they pressurise at up to 2 bar, the setting of the relief valve, (any higher would be dangerous when it vented) and they say true expresso requires 6 bar. The machine you have ordered I believe pressurises to 9 bar so is the real deal, I believe the superior taste of coffee from my pod machine to the Senseo which uses far more coffee in its dosettes is down to the pressure.
I really dont like the plastic waste but the other side of the coin is that it consumes a lot less ground coffee than the Senseo and a huge amount less than my original drip coffee machine or a French press.

If you do not like it than change to a reusable coffee pod.. Very simple..

The definitive answer. For the perfect cup of coffee, go to McDonalds. You ARE joking, aren't you? ...Beurk! Not at all. Logically, the experts on McDonald's coffee are those who like it, not those who don't.

I have two of these. I doubt if the combined cost was €30. I buy a variety of freshly ground coffees from Caves de Limousin for these. I could get by on the scent alone. Nearly up there with McD's. 🤣

As an expert with more experience than most on Mcdonalds. There cafe latte is a 9 out of 10 avoid the cappuccino its a bit like dishwater and don't forget your vax papers if dining inside. Coffee capsules, don't scrimp and go for the best lidils own are not as good. For best results in my opinion is to heat up some proper milk first then use the capsules.
