What a disgrace... The coach should be fired for letting the players "run up the score" and the players should be ashamed.

In Riga the island women beat them also 10-0. Nothing wrong with that, but running up the score to 20 is a little unprofessional.

Normally I'd take the sportsmanship line but given how our politicians have let us down, I feel it is imperative that our sportsmen and sportswomen, when they can, demonstrate England's superiority to the rest of the world, even over weak opponents.

Yes I agree, there’s something very distasteful about it, I don’t think one of our National teams would like it if the boot were on the other foot so to speak, I don’t think it’s very sportsman/woman/person like .

When the All Blacks beat Japan by 145 - 17 in 1995, was that bad sportsmanship as well? Should the better team just stopping playing so the other team gets a look in? Or perhaps the better team should have their hands strapped behind their backs?
Latvia managed to get into the table to play and were well beaten by a better team, that's just sport. As for suggesting the coach should be fired, that's just ludicrous.

Bad sportsmanship is deliberately not playing to your best.
Imagine another game where the ladies are doing well and so stop playing. Said team gets beaten by just a couple of goals and as a consequence comes second in the group and has a chance of going on, whereas the now third team (beaten on goal difference) gets no chances at all. That is called fiddling/influencing the results/etc and is open to all sorts of criticism.

Those of ibis and traveller, who seem to think the players shouldn't have tried as hard to play the game, or the rest of us, who think it's just the way sport is? Male team or female team, as they say in France, c'est le jeu, ma pauvre Lucette.

The Scottish football team would love to score 20 goals in one game. ☺ Or even over one year.

Only two options really, accept the crazy results or have pre-qualifying for major competitions.
As an aside, if you look at Harry Kane's goalscoring record for England he has scored very few goals against teams in the top ten of the FIFA rankings so when he becomes the country's best ever goalscorer next year I think this achievement will be tainted somewhat.

Isn't that what the qualifying group rounds are? Or do you mean qualifying for the qualifying group rounds? However you do it, unless you have seeded teams who have a bye, you are likely to get a top notch team playing an also in the competition team.
