I wish to rectify my last post - I had understood this morning that the party-goers had been infected with the new Omnicrom variant, but apparently it was the Delta variant.
...not that it changes anything really , but I felt the need to correct the info I posted earlier

The fact that 36 people in a single place were infected is the point worth reinforcing, whichever variant it was; this is a virus that is not going to just fade away.

Well if transmission rates remain that high then thats exactly what it will do and in short order, it happened in 2018 albeit at a cost none of us would want to pay. The restrictions we will likely see in most countries are a balancing act slowing down but not preventing the inevitable outcome.
I agree that it is the point and worth reinforcing

Transiting France as a UK national to another EU country, the AFP asked if this is allowed as there has been confustion lately. The AFP (Agence France-Presse) has had this reply... "Application of border instructions The Interior Ministry replied to AFP that there had been no change in the rules, and that it was a question of applying the instructions at the borders, updated on 18 December. "The British, even if they are beneficiaries of the withdrawal agreement, are third-country nationals, as the withdrawal agreement allows them to be exempted (for the time being) from a residence permit," the ministry said. "Therefore, even though the title of the category is silent on this point, it seems logical to read it consistently with other third-country nationals and not to allow transit to another EU country." So I guess that is pretty much to the point!

Isn't that only of relevance to a UK citizen CdS holding French resident in the UK and intending to transit France as a stepping stone to another country?
If that were the case they would simply say they are returning to their French residence if asked.
It's good that it has been considered though, it is no skin off their nose if someone transits France but they don't want to fall out with their neighbours.

Updated travel info. COVID-19 entry requirements Travel between the UK and France All those wishing to travel from the UK to France, regardless of vaccination status, can only do so for essential reasons, as defined by the French authorities. French nationals, as well as residents in France, are considered to have an essential reason for travel. The full list of what constitutes essential travel is on the French Embassy website. The French authorities confirmed on 30 December that UK nationals who are resident in other EU Member States and who have travelled to the UK for the Christmas period will be able to transit France over the New Year period in order to return home to their country of residence.

Indeed they now can, but once the period is over it seems that will no longer be possible.
