The person travelling. No free tests for persons travelling in the UK (as stated) nor France.

Well, it does seem more logical to do the test before arrival.

The French government has announced today..
France will require a negative Covid test for all travellers arriving in the country from outside the EU, which includes the UK.
This applies to both vaccinated and non-vaccinated travellers.
The test must have been taken within 48 hours of arrival in France for vaccinated travellers and 24 hours in advance for non-vaccinated.
The type of test – PCR or antigen – has not been specified nor when the rule will be enforced.

I was expecting to read that it was Macron being petulant and that Boris was to blame! I don't use Twitter so I should not need to do a test!

Maybe I'm being dim, but what on earth does using Twitter have to do with the testing rules?

It would be wonderful if your interpretation is correct, but I suspect it is in the 48 hours before your arrival in France. We'll have to await the updated texts.

She may be correct, it's the 24 hours in advance for non vaccinatedthat leads me to that interpretation, however it may have been written or translated by a non native Englsih speaker, so like you I await the text.
I would prefer to have a lateral flow test done by my pharmacienne, I think we have to pay now.
