Either a push-button switch which self-cancels after a set period of time or A cord-operated switch as commonly fitted in UK bathrooms or An out-door switch with a spring-loaded cover to keep the rain off.
An extensive search of Brico-Marche in Confolens yesterday failed to find anything suitable.
All advice gratefully received.

For the first you need to ask for un bouton poussoir minuterie
I have not come across a pull cord switch, with a conforming electrical installation there is no need for one in a bathroom.
Last one is un interrupteur etanche some will have the swing up covers, others a clear flexible plastic membrane to push the switch through, there are many different types.

@ Biggles, in front of me the standard French minuterie, a mechanical device to be installed in your tableau électrique. Push once and the count down of the timer starts.

Biggles, I have a corded switch or two left over in the workshop, I will look a little later on. You pay the P&P and it is yours. PM me. Legrand 077014 is a corded pull switch, but they are for wall mounting. www.amazon.fr/Legrand-LEG77014-programme-mosa%C3%AFque-modulaire/dp/B00870BF0O

The switch arrived safely today thank you LD- I will PM you now.
p.s. As it happened we were just going out when we met our post lady, Mrs Happy, at the end of the drive. She required confirmation that Biggles lived here which caused some hilarity! How on earth did you find such as appropriate stamp?
