The Zoe Covid application, about which I know nothing, is reporting that many of those who've caught the Omicron variant have symptoms more similar to those of the common cold - runny nose, headache, sneezing etc - than to those of Delta or earlier variants.

I just had an unpleasant image come to mind. Wearing a mask with a runny nose.

The problem with headlines like that is that people take it at face value and ignore those who die as a result of catching Omicron - something not so common with the common cold.

Common cold symptoms akin to omnicron, perhaps. Grandson had bad cold, major panic all round COVID COVID ahhhhhh. It is the cold season folks, lots of sniffles. Just do a quick test, dont assume. There is a health world beyond covid that goes on as ever it did.

Omicron, woolybanana, not omnicron, or omnicrom as I've seen it written as well.

onmykron might be better, more authority, or perhaps ohmykron. it doesnt matter. Come to think of it, onmicron is a less threatening word, less authoritarian, less rigid. ( Actually I mistyped rogid, seems a much betttter word.)

Language is a living breathing thing not a rigid statue, thank Bobo. Unless you happen to be a very small controlling number of very elderly French saddos. In season my garden has loads of raspberries (I prefer rasberries, by the way); feel free to come and make your choice. In the meantime 🍋.

Since returning from Britain 3 weeks ago I've had common cold symptoms but I've tested myself 3 times in that period and shown negative. That's my most recent test in the jokes section. So you've all been looking at my snot. Thank me later.

Some members on here have been reporting on our health and symptoms to the Zoe app for a long time now.
The current Covid variant symptoms are very like those of the common cold, but as so very many have been wearing masks they are less likely to be cold symptoms and much more likely to be the Covid variant, so people really ought to take a LF or PCR test, acting in the public interest for us all.
As for naming variants, there have been some which haven’t actually been named, so the Greek name for ‘o’ was chosen, missing out ‘nu’ and ‘xi’; ‘nu’ because it sounds too much like the word new and could have caused confusion, and ‘xi’ is a hugely common surname. It would no doubt have given rise to huge upset and distress due to it being Xi Jinping’s name - it would have been an enormous insult to him.
