Exceptional authorisation has been granted to sell autotests in les grandes surfaces in France, but only until the end of January 2022. It's already possible to buy them in supermarkets in Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland, so it seems a reasonable change in the law.

I think they are being distributed within l'Education Nationale, my friend leaving for Spain with her family for Xmas took the packet from the UK surgery that I had given her and a very similar looking pack issued to her at the Lycée Pro.
Come to think of it she mentioned the kit costing €15 so probably not distributed but available at a price to those in higher risk of contact occupations.
To visit the UK do you now need a PCR test again or can I continue with a Passe Covid test from the pharmacie? I realise I now need a PCR test to return to France, logistically easy for me in the UK but more difficult in France.

I hope the price is low enough to encourage people to test regularly. Otherwise, it's a wasted effort. They are still distributed free in parts of the UK. Irish news reports that around €1.99 a pop is the likely "cost price" there as production rises.

The pharmacy test in France is acceptable for entry to the UK, where you will then need a pcr test to release within 2 days. To return to France you then need a fit to fly antigen test and either a 10 day quarantine on arrival or an antigen test to release after 48 hrs minimum.

The marketing director for Lidl said on the news last night that they would sell them at "prix coûtant", ie cost price + TVA.

Twice in recent weeks, outside Tesco, volunteers working for the local council were dishing out boxes of 7 tests, two at a time, to anyone who wanted them. Previously, from an NHS van parked at the village hall staff were giving away these boxes as well as doing the tests on request.

Unfortunately the situation appears to be changing. Shortages and patchy supply of pcr tests are now being reported.

My friend who is a teacher said her box of test kits which looked like the UK 7 day one that I had given her, cost €15, I think she bought it from/thru the Lycée, they are in Spain so I cannot check but I do recall the €15.

Better they are given free to encourage testing; France can afford it.

Mind you, it's not helped by the minority who think it clever to effectively steal GB testing kits, only to pass them on to a third party on their return to France.

While I understand the sentiment, I doubt that the UK shortage is caused by that minority.

And the beat goes on....................... My stolen kit was given to me by my UK neighbours on my visit before last, September probably when I had to quarantine for 10 days, they had loads of them that they said were pressed onto them by an organisation with a stand in the town centre, forced on them were their words, they were asked did they have family members, friends, neighbours relatives, they were indeed at that time forcing them on people as I was stopped whenever I was in town after the quarantine, they were even more persistant than the Chuggers.
At that time the Covid daily cases were low and they had millions of test kits going begging having ordered them during the restrictions, they were actively encouraging their use after all the restrictions were lifted, its perhaps what France should be doing now.
I wanted to self test during the quarantine after the day 2 test as I was going to do the whole 10 days to not leave the house twice for day 8 testing, I could have had them delivered by the NHS or from the local pharamacie, same questions, how many in your household, how many weeks supply do you want. I kept one kit in the UK which now has 3 tests remaining, the other kit I brought to France, I had no use for it so why should I not give my stolen kit to a friend who would make good use of it? they will be using them about now in Spain, pre-testing before paying out for PCR tests in their last 24 hours, it will give them some advance confidence rather than stressing about test results and whether they can all travel on the day of travel. But hey! don't let that get in the way of judgementalism, it's always very popular when people are unsettled.
