It is not illegal to sell detectors. It is illegal to use them!
Dashcam? Look at Blackbur for quality.

Yep, Totally! Combination of using an iphone and someone in the background saying dins is ready! Blackvue. As for picking up fixed cameras, it is also illegal to assist someone in this venture, but, outside of peripheriques, detectors should not be necessary as france helpfully tells you with over -size notices where they have put the cameras What satnav do you have? some maps are region specific, so it is often possible to find features on say a brexitland one that are not in European ones. But be careful here, because another thing the brexit dumb-ass heads voted for was to move away from mainstream GPS and develop a brexitland one (stupid idiots) so one day, you might find a brexitland satnav no longer works in france! There are SD cards that have \places of interest' listed so that they overlay a GPS maps...

The cheapo Chinesium Satnav on my Chinesium head unit alerts for speed cameras, traffic light cameras and average speed camera zones in France without calling them something else, using it is seemingly illegal.
I've had a few of them as they all seem to go into sulks & need rebooting just when you really rely on them like around the Boulevard Périphérique, they cost less delivered than the cheapest cost in France for the memory card that they come on.
Many modern car infotainment systems allow you to use your own software on a memory card or download it directly.

Isn't it at about this point that some holier-than-thou, sententious ***** chips in with "If you don't go over the limit you've nothing to worry about, and no need of a warning system" Hypocrisy rules OK

OK.
If you don't go over the limit, you've nothing to worry about, and no need of a warning system.

.... detectors should not be necessary as france helpfully tells you with over -size notices where they have put the cameras The helpful signs in our area tell you that there are cameras over the next 42km. That is one fixed camera (where there is an "80 rappel" ) and one (possibly 2) large and chunky mobile units, which they sit in laybys as the mood takes them. No other warnings. So at the command above, best not to speed at all - but frankly for much of the journey it would be difficult/extremely dangerous to speed anyway.

I would love to earn enough to be able to pay speeding fines, but the pension goes further and the high speed fuel consumption is saved by following the signs. Good of them to put them up to save my money. Bugger the idiot behind who has a heavy foot.

And during the whole of that 42km my satnav will bleat "average speed camera" which it isn't every 10 seconds!! If that was not bad enough I have it programmed for the French language, directions, village names etc are pronounced perfectly but the warnings are in English and the system murders the words by following the French syllables (wrong word), "ahead" becomes "ai-ee-yah"

The mention of legality above is interesting. I'm pretty certain that some years ago I was "reading" a French car magazine that was listing where the fixed radar cameras were located, new ones being added when installed.

Run Waze on your phone. Camera locations are not allowed, but it tells you that you are entering a Zone de contrôle, users have added Police at the camera location.
My nextbase dashcam is great, they are a bit more expensive than the generic cheap things though.

This is the French Government web site map of the speed cameras radars.securite-routiere.gouv.fr/#/If you click on a specific radar you will get information on the types of vehicle it can detect, etc.

The last Michelin road atlas I got has the positions of fixed cameras marked.
