I refuse to put on winter tires because:
• It’s my car, my choice, my freedom. • The effectiveness of winter tires is not proven, except by studies carried out by the manufacturers (like I’m supposed to trust them). • My neighbour Bob had an accident even after putting on winter tires. • Some drivers are already on their 3rd set of tires, which proves their ineffectiveness. • We do not know what the tires are made of. • The tire manufacturers scare us with winter just to enrich themselves. • In fact, I read on the internet that the tire giants invented snow and spread it at night when you sleep. • If I have winter tires, the government can track me in the snow.
Educate yourself using Twitter, Facebook, and other reliable resources. Then open your eyes, stop being sheep!
This year, say no to winter tires

Mine only got put on a week ago because the temperatures were never low enough and today they are back up to 14°c, they have plenty of tread and will be great in the snow but currently they are ditchfinders in warmish wet conditions, I drive very cautiously so no big deal but noticed wheelspin on starting across a wet T junction, my car is 4wd on command and I though the Haldex coupling was not functioning, I have been out again today, dry & warm & done a few tests where on farm tracks & everything is working, they just have precious little grip.
Its all about driving within the limitations of the vehicle, the grip of the tyres and your own limitations, just because I finally am in a situation justifying having winter wheels I dont judge others who dont make the choice anymore than I judge or try to influence people who have made their own decision regarding vaccination.
If they set out on a long journey in a snow blizzard with youngsters in a FWD car on summer tyres without any precautions, clothing, sustenance, folding shovel etc then i might be critical.
Its the very social media where misinformation is found that provides the vehicle for people to be judgemental about others where they would not in normal life.
When my road tyres wear out, & they are showing little sign of ever doing so, they will be replaced with 4 season tyres and I will put some full on ice & snow tyres on the winter wheels and only use them in extremis and not for a couple of months each winter.

I got the joke, but as it was in the motoring section I thought you were making a point that people should fit them, apologies if you were not.
Are you driving on winter tyres?

When I bought a diesel engined estate car years ago I bought a set of winter tyres on steel rims for it. They were speed rated to 270kmh. On the Autobahns any car with winter tyres is limited to 160.

My winter tyres have done a lot more than 250kms, at least 25000 I reckon.

It was just for a bit of fun rather than a discussion on winter tyres (which i think we already had) OK, maybe it should have been in the joke section.

Are you driving on winter tyres?
Now I have stopped winter rallyes the answer is no. But when i did I had three sets. Vredestein Icetrac studded, Arctrac non studded and Snowtrac All excellent.
In fact I used a set of snowtrac on an event in Portugal when it was very hot. They worked very well but wore out quite quickly.

Winter tyres by their nature are made of a softer compound, so will wear out quicker than standard road tyres. I have always used a set of winter when living in the Uk high up in the Pennines, so they were only on for perhaps three months, they lasted years before they needed changing, I know its a pain to swap over wheels, but with a good trolley jack and a long wheel brace, its only half an hour job, and that's on a big 4x4.
