I think I should pop into yours to taste a few first to decide if it's worth me investing in buttermilk! Then you'd better come first thing in the morning because there'll be none left by lunch time tomorrow! - that's why I don't bake often - all that work and it's all gone in a blink of an eye! Oh, are they a load of work ....... I can't come over tomorrow though because a) I don't do first thing in the morning and b) I couldn't if I wanted because the decorator will be here and someone has to be here to crack the whip! Eventually and reluctantly (because it really was too hot to cook) I did honey and mustard belly pork with new potatoes and beans.

I’m still on the low residual diet thanks to diverticulitis. I saw the dietitian yesterday and I can now add in potatoes, bananas, tomatoes but with no skin or seeds, cooked beetroot and some tinned vegetables and fruit. I can eat lettuce but only the yellower centre not the very green leaves and cucumber but again no skin or seeds. It’s a step in the right direction. From next month I can then start adding back in cooked fresh vegetables and fruit. It’s the worst time for me as there’s so much lovely fresh fruit and vegetables at the moment. I can truly say I now hate white rice and plain pasta! Tonight’s meal is something takeaway from our local restaurant if it’s on my list or breadcrumb coated chicken with potatoes and tinned peas and carrots. Followed by semolina in milk. Roll on August.

Oh golly, sw31girl - that is definitely NOT the diet for this weather

I so sympathise about your diet. My husband was put on an exclusion diet several years ago, so I decided to join him in it as it was going to be very difficult to see him on such a restricted diet if I was eating fairly normally. It wasn’t easy to start it one cold January morning, with only some raw fruit and some raw vegetables allowed, with other food items added in each week or so. No coffee or tea were allowed (no alcohol either, of course), which is when we started drinking fennel tea, our main drink since then. Good luck with the rest of your time on your diet - hope that it will help with your diverticulitis.

I decided that it’s looking more like winter than summer, following our heatwave which came to a sudden, soggy and cool end.
So I’ve got a venison casserole in the oven and it’s smelling very good.
There’s a fresh fruit salad for dessert, just the apple and bananas to add to the grapes, nectarines and satsumas in the dish.

At this time of year we try to eat as much from the veg garden as possible, so tonight we're having fresh veg soup followed by green beans in a tomato basil sauce and rump steak in pepper sauce. Didn't grow the rump steak .

A double batch of chicken curry has been simmering for a while now ready for this evening's dinner. The aim is to eat half and freeze half.

Felt in need of a bit of a pick me up today, so made a cocktail, not my usual style but it was fabulous, aperol, gin, crushed strawberries, lemon juice and sugar syrup, certainly cheered me up!

I made a terrine this morning, minced pork, chicken livers, onions garlic and mushrooms. A few breadcrums and eggs to bind, then into a bacon lined loaf tin and cooked in a bain-marie for 1,5 hours. It's pressing at the moment then we'll have it cold with garden veg later. Yummy.

I have just picked some blackberries that I intend to eat after my evening meal. Does any one know of a way of making it less likely of finding any other things like larvae in them?

I put blackberries to soak for a few minutes in salty water, then rinse well - I’ve got a thing about creepy crawlies in my food, extra protein or not! 😁
