I am looking to come out at the earliest opportunity but it is all looking too complicated (that is the purpose) at the moment, we are home owners in France, have lived there but not resident and I need to return to maintain our two properties but I cannot see in the current rules that I can. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As I understand it only French nationals and permanent residents ( I.e. with a carte de sejour ) are allowed in at the moment.

I'm not sure when the restrictions are planned to end, ie if they are open-ended or not; perhaps someone with up-to-date knowledge of the rules (eg pcpa or lapourtaider) might reply.

Petition your local MP to rejoin the EU.

Petition your local MP to rejoin the EU. Im not sure annabellespapa could rejoin the EU, normally the EU prefer a country to join rather than an individual. At the moment you have no chance of coming to France until the latest covid wave has peaked.

I think at the moment people are just going to have to ride it out

Travel restrictions should be gone by the end of the month once the Omicron wave has passed.

I strongly doubt that things will be over / improving by the end of January

I strongly doubt that things will be over / improving by the end of January Germany is allowing Brits in again from Tuesday so I don't see why France can't do the same within the next 3/4 weeks.

I don’t think the NHS / government would be paying out what it is for extra measures over the next few weeks if they thought it would be sorted in a month, anyway we will see

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We are in the same situation, along with many others, and I am just hoping we will be allowed back soon. We have a critical date of March 20th 2022 and our ferry is booked though I would like to pay a short visit much earlier. It may be that while the Covid rates remain high, France and other EU countries might relax the “reason for travel” because a common high rate would reduce the effectiveness of travel bans. France has already suffered from the loss of Brits on the ski slopes. There are many other pressures on all our economies due to the present travel restrictions.

My view based on no particular evidence at all is that things will be lifted by the end of January..my rationale? Lots of cases but this particular brand of Covid appears to be more like a bad cold, with similar levels of infection. Add in that booster vaccine appears to mitigate against serious problems ( all of these things I can back up with evidence from my own circle of friends and family as we were all exposed to Covid over the holiday period, including elderly people with multiple health probs). So something that infectious will go through the population in 6 weeks..my guess..and then just recirculate, each time getting milder as more and more people encounter it and develop antibodies. That's not to say more serious strains won't appear in future...but for now, I think this current wave will be past the worst by the end of winter. And it will no longer be a novel virus for most people, so our bodies will over time develop immune strategies. This is me with my New Year/ New moon optimism. 😁. We are going to have a quiet January but making tentative plans for February. I think this is what living with Covid will look like. Maybe travel plans having to move to accommodate necessary restrictions, maybe another round/ rounds of vaccination... but life going on. Quote me this time next year to see if any of my predictions were right!

The myth that this is just a bad cold needs to be debunked quickly
