Does anyone know............ Concerning the UK basic state pension. If two retired people get married are their pensions reduced to less than what two single people would get?

I think not. Each partner will have earned their entitlement according to their respective histories.

I think not. Each partner will have earned their entitlement according to their respective histories. Yes I agree, it’s only different for women who paid the married woman’s contribution, I don’t know if that still applies to working people now, but you paid a lesser contribution and could claim a small pension based on your husband’s contribution. For most people retiring now they would have contributed or gained credits on their own behalf.

Motley Fool says "There's nothing like a special State Pension for couples. According to current UK State Pension rules, each partner in a marriage or a civil partnership must build up their own State Pension through qualifying years and can't benefit from their spouse's State Pension.Apr 2, 2021"
Opting out, bringing up a family and other things can have an impact so you might have difficulty finding a couple on here that share your circumstances.

I guess not then. Thanks for looking. I did, A! I looked for ages on HMRC site but not a glimmer of a mention of that situation. Now, if you were to marry a man, that's covered How about it?

I worded that badly, didn't I? So am I What's worse, HMG in general and IDS in particular robbed me of seven years of state pension, so I'll probably be dead long before I see a penny of it

On the other hand on the death of a spouse there may be a transfer of the state pension to the survivor.
