Now, my little dog, the remoaner of a pair is 15 next week. He is quite small and a mongrel. And he sleeps on the sofa evenings having bitched at me until I lift the sofa barrier. But he farts for England, France, Europe and the whole Universe. He has always had the same hard dog food. I am worried that if I give him soft stuff he will give me le look or sh*t everywhere. How can I stop this short of a plug où je pense? Suggestions please, excepting any about sending him to any of the PMs of the various bits of the UK. Thank you in advance, from a room full of the cloud of fart!

A lot of old people fart, I'm not sure if they know it or just pretend it's not them. Not saying you have this issue but it's a possibility. 💡 If it is the dog he might be struggling with dry food, worth asking a vet or like humans he will fart more as he gets older.

Maybe it is lactose intolerant?? Check the ingredients of your food you are given it.
Experiment with different foods - dry and wet or take the other posters advice and ask your vet.

You could also try Charcoal dog biscuits.

+1 for exile's suggestion. I thought charcoal is the standard 'cure' for windy dogs

Why do anything? You're lucky you have the dog to blame it on.

WB try not farting for a few days in front of the dog it could be a classic case of the dog trying to please you by trying to be like you.

Why do anything? You're lucky you have the dog to blame it on. I thought that was going to save me one time. I was dining with my to be wife's family when I inadvertently let go a squeaky one. Immediately my future FiL said sharply, "Cindy!" Cindy was the family dog and she was lying under the table. Imagine my relief. Several minutes later I was off again and again FiL called "Cindy!" Phew! Same again during dessert. I farted and my FiL cried "Cindy! Come out before he shits on you!.

This is the route to go. Our current dog seems to be cured mainly by avoiding chicken based dog food. That's interesting that you mention chicken lurcher, we were struggling getting our usual chicken variety during lockdown and went for their beef option, the farting didn't stop but it was significantly less. The dry dog food brand is called Wagg, cheap as chips and every other function of our dog is perfect. We add a couple of squibs of salmon oil in the morning feed along with a little water, his coat is lovely, he is soon to be 9 and is often mistaken for a puppy.

Grain is often the culprit too. Try switching to a grain-free diet. Easy to get hold of these days. Our two are pretty flatulence free on it.
