I bought something quite expensive online from a website which is in France, but when the goods were despatched, they were sent from the UK. Would I be liable for custom charges? The Invoice was French and with a Paris address. I have bought from this company before, but from their UK address. I purposely bought from the French office expecting the goods to be sent from France and was quite surprised when it was despatched from the UK. The goods are due to be delivered tomorrow.

No way that with the information you have given that anyone can give you an answer.
If the French price included French TVA plus any import duties (assuming there are any), then nothing more to pay. If not then you may be in for an unpleasant surprise - always assuming that the due fees have been spotted by customs. Even if you do not get a demand tomorrow, if the delivery company is Fedex or DHL, you might still get a retrospective demand. [It may apply to other companies as well but I know these two companies work like that for at least some of the time.]

The French invoice has a TVA number and I paid 20% TVA. According to the tracking it is currently going through customs and the carrier is Fedex.

I have had this several times, but usually with the item sent from China and twice from the USA. I paid TVA here and was assured nothing to pay at my end, it had all been taken care of. Economists call it 'globalisation'

Wondering if the base price (without VAT/TVA) is similar from both countries. There is often a shocking difference. It pays to check out both sites before ordering and do the maths.

I did check prices from both sites, but the British site quoted the ex. vat and inc. vat as the same price knowing that I was in France.

Even before Brexit many UK companies had trading entities in France that were no more than a registered office and a website in French, the goods were despatched from their UK factory or warehouse.
Not just limited to France but as its one of the most expensive and punitive EU countrys to have employees in many companies did so, Screwfix and Toolstation being 2 obvious examples, Corby Hospitality (famous for their oh so last century trouser presses) are another, they sell a whole range of hôtel and hospitality goods in France from a French regsitered company website but shipped from the UK with French plugs on the electrical items.
If you have ever bought car parts from Autodoc or any of its myriad group companies the parts will come from whatever EU country they happen to be stocked in.
Brexit has complicated matters and food products etc can't economically be sent but for other items I think the companys are continuing shipping from the UK orders placed on their French websites, if the TVA has been paid on the order I don't think you have any concerns about further charges.
Unless anyone knows different......................

I agree that if the invoice shows French TVA the only thing that may cause a hiccough woud be duty but these days relatively few items attract duty - fags and booze excepted.
