As lurcher, my e-tickets have been marked 'version 2', even though they are original bookings with no changes. The only time I have had to phone them was when the internet site wouldn't let me apply a discount voucher I had. The lady on the phone applied it for me.
Thank you annabellespapa for the warning about flexi tickets. I have paid more for them for the peace of mind. I'll try booking two singles from now on.

Just to clarify, the flexi ticket is fully flexible, you just have to call once you have completed the outbound leg.

We had to pay a £20 amendment fee to change from Sunday to today and we had to call. I will be speaking to Caroline Keenan at BF customer services when I get back to the UK later in the week, as to why it constantly comes up version 2 of your booking, which means you can't amend it on line and why people booking return Flexi crossings are disadvantaged over people booking two singles and aren't complying with the post Brexit rules of having a return journey booked. Interestingly, my booking for today which originally came up as version 2 when I booked online, after speaking to BF reservations and paying the £20 amendment fee is now version 5.

I'll be interested in what she has to say. Indeed you do need to pay the 20£ fee.
