A big generalisation but péage charges usually work out at around 10cts per km for me, not so many years ago it equalled the cost of diesel I consumed over the distance.
I have recently been hit with very high charges for travelling on the A89 Bordeaux to Clermont Ferrand autoroute, it has happened twice going in both directions between junction 13 Mussidan and junction 13.1 péage de Mussidan, which is only 7.5kms yet has cost me €3.50 and €5.30 when towing the tall trailer.
If it were a section where you dont get a ticket on entry but pay on exit like the A89 from Brive to Perigeux I could understand as I guess on that it is a forfait for the section no matter where you join it but I definitely passed through ticket barriers on entry and used them to exit, both my reciepts show that I have travelled or been charged for travelling 34km which would be about right for the charge.
Can anyone explain?
Regarding the section of péage on the same Autoroute between Brive and Perigeux that one catches me out when I am tired after 650kms, you arrive at the barrier and start frantically searching for a ticket that you dont have and as it turns out dont need!! In the meantime you agonise over where it is or how you got onto the péage section without getting a ticket at an entry barrier.

Found this on the AutoNews website; not sure if it applies to any of your trajets:

You drivin a van or high trailor? Towing a high trailer when charged class 2 at €5.30, car only class 1 at €3.50, both were between the same 2 junctions but in different directions, 7.5km distance.
The same autoroute the péage section from Perigueux to Brive (Thenon) cost €7.90 for the 70kms or €12.10 when towing the trailer as a class 2
The rip off is being charged 34km for only 7.5km of distance travelled.

Don't know about the individual sector prices, but didn't all péage charges increase quite considerably on 1/1/22?

Oooo, I’m heading to the autoroute for a long-ish drive today, equipped with my trusty beeper. So I shall have delayed shock when the "bip&go" bill arrives then. 😬

Does anyone know why travelling 7.5km between 2 junctions with a ticket on entry should be charged for 34km?
Or have experienced anything similar?
I know for instance in the Pas de Calais travelling South from Calais the peage actually starts well before the ticket barrier, it is many miles south of the exit for Ardres so I had thought I could take the autoroute to Ardres instead of the route nationale without charge but on taking the Southbound sortie I was met by a barrière de péage.

Although that section starts without passing a toll barrier you can only leave it by paying at an exit. I think the only warning before entering the toll section is HERE
From Calais on A26 the first exit after the start of the toll section is 17km at Nordausques 7km after Ardres.

My journey from home to Caen and back, using the A61, A62, A10, A28 and A84 (of top of my head without checking map) cost me a total of 178€.

I do not want a badge or account thanks, my reciept already shows the entry and exit points, category and cost.
Having an account would not resolve the enigma of why I am being charged for a 34km journey when I have travelled 7.5km entering via a ticket barrier and leaving via the barrière de péage.

Very interesting and if points were awarded you would get them but it's yet another response that clutters the thread without giving any information relevant to the question asked.
Yes I know that the tarifs have risen (2% on this section) yes I know that some sections like around Paris can be more expensive per km, the section of the A89 in question is charged at the same tarif per km as the one further along between Perigueux and Brive, I know that their grille tarifaire shows the toll to be €3.50, the question is why is 34km charged instead of the 7.5km travelled?

It's not 7.5km though. On entering the A26 from Calais there is no toll plaza. The first exit is 17km at Nordausques (€1.30 class 1 or €1.80 class 2) and the second is at Wizernes 31km (€2.50 class 1 or €4.00 class 2)
