Rather frosty lately what. Frosty as hell one night so thought I would wipe the frost off. Blow me not frost but condensation on the rear window. Window left open, no, bag of old food going off, no. Never ever seen this before. All other windows clear. Now how can this be?

Water ingress or damp clothing usually, feel the carpets in the rear footwell and also if a hatchback lift inspect the bottom of the boot floor/wheelwell. Other things to check are that the door drain holes are not blocked as water could be building up in them and/or escaping across the door seals. Is your rear screen washer working correctly? Many VAG models freeze up and pop a hidden joint in the rear panel when the washer is operated, then the leaking water drains unseen into the bootwell.
If you have aircon it may pay to switch it off for the last 5 minutes before parking, leave it on heat but without the A/C, this is to allow the condensation that builds up on the evaporator to drain and evaporate otherwise it is in the car like wet clothing and can also cause bacterial growth which stinks to high heaven.

Check for a crack around the edge of your rear window. Had that with the windscreen, the large crack was well hidden going along the black edge at the bottom.

Nah. You'd smell them. Or see the flippers.

Never ever seen this before. All other windows clear. Now how can this be? Unusual weather conditions. Sunny day with rapid drop in temperature at dusk = condensation on interior of windows.
It happened to my two cars recently and I noticed it also on all my neighbours' cars and we can't all have leaky seals, damp carpets or recently used a/c. My cars hadn't been used for two days!

Very common here in the humidity capitol of France. When it becomes visible on more than just the windscreen I put a small dehumidifier inside and it usually dries it out in 2 or 3 days. Probably leaking seals as well as damp footwells. The little unit utilises something called a Peltier Effect and as such it uses very little power running 24/7. I bought it to use in my boat, and later found it handy to use in wardrobes to stop mould growing on clothes.

I think you are right Beejay. Abnormal weather conditions. Sudden drop in temp after a warmish sunny day.
