Sessions of kiné, more drugs of the same type, and another two weeks off. First session of kiné on Wednesday morning. Make sure you choose the right kiné. One that devotes all their session to 1 patient and doesn’t flit between patients. My experience is the younger ones are better having been trained on more up to date techniques Very good point. I think that the last Kinie that I was under was great, but, seeing too many patients at once, therefore, was not devoting the time to me that she was paid to.

I have back and joint pain. I see a kine every week. She is relatively young and I only have a 20 min session but she has really helped me get rid of the pain. She is with me the whole time I am there and always asks if I have done any exercises during the week. Which now means that I do about 5 mins several times a day. It seems to be working well. The exercises are easy, even if a bit painful at first!

It seems that staying active is so important. I hope I can still do the work in 20 years time, or at least as long as I'm breathing.

I chose the kiné recommended by the doctor, who apparently doesn't make his patients wait too long before starting their treatment. Whether it's 1 to 1 I don't know, will wait to see.

Fingers crossed that you’ll have not only a short wait but also that you’ll get relief from the pain. Even better if you’ll have individual attention; I’ve not come across shared treatment.

I had a session with the kino, a nice lady who had multiple patients, it did not concern me as I was given an exercise to do for 10 min and did not need to be there once I was doing the movements correctly. She went on holiday once and left me with her stand-in who I called Maxwell. He had a suitcase full of shiny gear which turned out to be an electric hammer ( not silver though) dear barsteward Maxwell tenderized my muscle as if a dinner steak, he was probably a cook in his spare time. Since then, I have little faith in the kinos and work on the assumption that correct movement and exercise fixes most things with joints. I eased my back by going through the motions of hoola- hooping under a hot shower. It started off badly but after a while worked very well all as I expected it would. I am still looking for a real hoola-hoop to keep up the movements. I suppose I could make one from electrical IPL conduit if I can find a piece long enough. (No, I said hoola-hoop houpla, so relax)

In 1985 in the UK I had physio after breaking my patella and being in a full-length plaster of Paris tube for 6 weeks. It was my lucky day when I insisted seeing a physio within minutes of having the plaster removed. It was just before Christmas and I was told I'd get a letter with an appointment 'sometime' in the new year. But I had a skiing holiday booked for February so needed to get my locked rigid leg working again quickly. The physio was brilliant and she booked me in every day possible for a 1:1 session (including Christmas Eve). I had 1/2 hour or so of her undivided attention with me doing the exercises and her measuring the success of each attempt and encouraging me all the way. I went skiing.
In 2007 in France I did almost everything bad it's possible to do to the same knee. I then had many, many kine appointments but of a totally different nature. I only saw that kine 1:1 twice; once for the initial assessment session and again at the end of weeks of treatment to sign me off. The rest of the time I was in a well-equipped gym with several other patients. The kine would instruct me as to what to do and for how long before he would reappear and move me on to something else. There were many people needing his time but many of them might as well not have gone as when unsupervised, they did next to nothing and made little progress. Again I was strongly motivated; I wanted to get back on board my horse. So I really worked at it three times a week and it paid off.
I preferred the 1:1 approach, but with such a shortage of kine around here, I was glad of any help I could get. I'm sure much success in recovery depends on the patient's determination.
I get the feeling FFS is no pushover, and so will drive himself to make a difference. Good luck.

The value of good physio in the management of musculo-skeletal problems cannot be overstated. I think clinicians are a bit more switched on. When I started physios were considered mildly desirable whereas I'd now regard physio as an essential, and sometimes only, intervention for many conditions.
Never turn down the offer of physiotherapy.

Ha! Thanks gigi, no wonder I can't find them under Hoola-hoop, I don't think the smart Hula is a good idea for fellas as if the track jams, I know just where that weight will land.

Sorry I haven't been back on this thread. Things are no better, after 6 weeks, perhaps a little worse. Kiné was 1 to 1, but treatments such as ultra sound massage (twice), heat lamp (twice, the most long-lasting), and TENS (twice, and the least effective) did little to provide long relief. The last seesion, TENS while lying on my stomach, had to be cut short due to extremely violent and involuntary contractions when I tried to get myself upright again.
A combination of Oxycontin (10 mg), muscle decontractants, paracetamol (1000 mg), and anti-inflammatories, plus a strategically placed pillow, gets me through most nights without too much pain, but getting out of bed is still a bastard. The constipating side-effect of the drugs doesn't help either.
Typing is not easy either: gross motor movements are okay - clicking the mose button or a link, for example - but positioning fingers over the keyboard and typing puts a slight strain on back muscles.
The NHS site on back pain says: "Back pain is very common and usually improves within a few weeks or months." - the timescale is hardly reassuring or precise.

I know of a doctor in Italy who will do a spinal transplant. He does not take insurance and you would have to wait for the donor to fly in from China... Do you want me to search his contact details?

I suspect you have already tried this but.............do try changing the height of the keyboard in relation to your seating, alter the reach, etc. Some variations kill me, others last much longer before the lower back complains.

I'm no Docteur but when I have aches & pains walking, exercise & physical work always trumps sitting at a keyboard whatever the position.
