These are the figures.
Opacite (1.76 m 1) c5 3.38 m l, c6 4.32 m l, c7 3.93 m l, moyenne 3.88 m l
I presume the 1.76 figure is the target and my car is putting out twice that?

in the uk pouring a bottle of “Catclean” into the fuel tank, driving around normally for a few days followed by the high speed Italian tune up described above will sort out most problems. Replacing the engine oil also helps

The missing word is “Catclean” and it’s available on ebay

Sorry, it slipped my mind.
I have checked and the valeur à ne pas depasser for your vehicle is 3 m-1 since the changes in 2019, before that there was a marge de tolerance of 20% allowable and I think back then they probably could have got yours through by taking it for a spin.
If it has not been regularly serviced I would change the air filter, if clogged that would take your emissions over the edge, they are cheap enough & if needed you will get better fuel economy.
Secondly an Italian tune up as has been suggested although you might want to ask someone to do that for you, if you have always treated your car well it will feel like abuse.
For the retest do the above on the way there all the way if you can, the aim is to get it there with the exhaust stinking hot & for them to test it straight away.
If you know anyone with an OBDII code reader, preferably Citroen specific diagnostic software then that would tell you if there are any faults with say the MAF or MAP sensors, temperature sensor etc, your EU3 emissions set up is very simple so not much electronics to go wrong. I assume that there are no engine management warning lights lit up so probably no relevant fault codes to be read but get them checked if you can.
Good luck.

Actually the value I gave was a default value if there was not one specified by the constructor, the 1.76 might be the Citroen homologation figure, it sounds a bit low, I will check.

After failing her CT last month due to high opacite, I was advised to put a can of cleaner in the tank by my trusted garagiste and told to driver her hard. I've driven like an Italian for month, high revs through every gear and the smoke levels have definitely decreased and she feels a lot better. Off for contra controle tomorrow. Wish me luck.

She passed with flying colours! So relieved. Out of interest how do you pick the sex of a car?

All cars are girls in our house. Always have been, eg the Corvette was called Charlene, the Picasso is Fifi, the RR is Caroline (after my auntie who bought it for me), the Integrale was Lola, and so forth. Never occurred to me that a car could be masculine.
