We haven't stopped being aware and careful since the original one hit Europe. We still wear a mask (correctly positioned) and carry our own hand gel when shopping. Haven't had any close social contact for over two years now.

This is the current family 'Covid infection' scoreboard of those that have had it - MIL, FIL, SIL, uncle, niece, youngest son twice plus girlfriend, eldest son twice, I should add that these are all 'positive tests' following symptoms.
We've done our best to not be included on the scoreboard and believe our much reduced social interaction over the last two years has definitely helped.

We still mask everywhere we go, have never stopped, the UK has been led to believe covid is a thing of the past by this pathetic so called government. We are well aware covid has not gone away, and is massively on the increase in the UK currently........

Things aren't great here Johnny, case numbers have started to rise again. Whilst entering Leclerc this morning several people were turned away for not wearing a mask because they thought the obligation had ended when in fact it's from Monday.

I really dont get the "I dont/wont wear a mask" thing, its been done is Asia for many a year, I really don't find it an issue to wear one.....

I looked the other day at stats and was surprised that from memory it averaged out at 50000 new cases per day. At the notaires today there was six in the room hand shakes and the notaire said we could take off our masks to speak. Some think the pandemic is over. We are still ultra careful.

It became obvious that many people already think masks are not obligatory. In Leclerc this afternoon those without masks almost outnumbered those with. We decided to leave and go elsewhere. Our local Carrefour Market was busy but everybody masked and observing distancing at the check-out. We are not sure where to shop after Monday's Freedom day especially as cases are on the rise. Worrrying times.

They are thinking about no more masks indoors here also; only on public transport, hospitals and old folks homes but we have a 429 per 100000 here with 85 deaths. About 22,000 new infections..

It's time now to live with it folks, if to you that means wearing a mask when you go out good for you, if it means cutting yourself off from the world thats fine, no-one is going to question your reasons or criticise you but should that not work both ways?
France and the UK are in a very different situation than when the virus started in spreading in its deadly virulent form amongst an unvaccinated population, the drastic measures were necessary then and it was clear how well they worked by the rises during holiday times and on relaxation of the measures, now 90% + of the population are vaccinated, in the UK more than 50% of the population have already contracted Covid(dont know the number for France) further strengthening their immunity if vaccinated or giving immunity to the unvaccinated, some of the latter sadly will have passed away but in most cases they had exercised their choice and probably will have been not protecting themselves and socialising, I think of the demonstrations and football matches here.
Living with it without mandatory restrictions is the only way to give immunity to those who chose not to be vaccinated. Like living with seasonal flu and for most people currently catching the Omicron variant its less debilitating than that especially if they have been fully vaccinated.

The problem is pcpa that at the moment we are seeing people dying at a rate of 48,000 per year. Anecdotally these are mainly refuseniks. But is it right that we "return to normal" and increase still further the deaths in that group? Put another way, at what point do we as the population as a whole stop being good Samaritans to those who think themselves above the virus?

Monday!
For each death in that group many more will have gained natural immunity which for many is how they wanted to play it, those people will seek out high concentration settings and wont be wearing masks, so vaccinated people continuing to wear protection wont have any affect on them
I stopped looking at the numbers a long while back, at one time it was every day.

Apologies, I was just trying to agree with PCPA's last two posts... He has best voiced my take and family take on the situation.
