I am soon(ish) going to be turning my attached barn (30m2) into living accommodation.
Just wondered what you're thoughts were on the flooring. Currently it has a concrete floor without any insulation.
I was thinking that the options would be: Block and beam Timber Another layer of concrete
Each option insulated of course.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

What form of heating are you going to install? This can have an impact on what and how you floor.

Insulation concrete and tiled it will work out cheaper than a good wooden floor and will not go damp and no need to fit vents which you would need for a wooden floor.

I suggest you plan a bit further ahead and decide how you will heat the room. I would, myself, choose wet underfloor heating with a wood burner with back boiler to feed both the domestic hot water system and the UFH. Look up wet UFH on the web and see flooring cross sections. Definitely tile it and avoid carpeting for your healths sake.

The rest of the house relies on electric radiators and a wood burner.
Interesting thought on UFH from a back burner, sounds a good option.
