I was admonished on another forum for saying that driving on cooking oil is the same offence as driving on red diesel, I was told it was not true and is perfectly legal under a limit of 2500 litres per year, I am speaking of the UK here, can anyone confirm?
I refuelled with diesel on the autoroute at 5am on Sunday morning at 194.9 cts per litre, I was lucky as all the other stations were more as was Intermarché in town but the biggest shock was finding out that I paid 10cts per litre less than the local pumps for GNR, gasoil non routier = red diesel.
Someone is making a fortune if untaxed diesel is being sold at a higher price than taxed diesel on the autoroute which is usually 30cts per litre more expensive than at a non autoroute station service.
The builders etc will just start using cooking oil & wont have to drive miles to find it unlike red diesel.

They are limiting you to 5 liters of sunflower oil per day here in Spain. Is it the same in France?

Your welcome..............!

While I owned my Mk5 Transit a lot of the members on the Transit forum were using it, and posted various methods for cleansing and removing water from secondhand cooking oils. Those crude old Ford diesels weren't too fussy what you ran them on.

I fear the cities are going to get smelly with a rush to buy used frites oil. Restaurants will do well though.
I am waiting for my ethanol conversion box to arrive for the little Pug that should save me maybe 35% on filling up. As Tesco say, every little bit helps!

I am thinking of setting up a petrol cleansing unit to take the ethanol out of the fuel I use in my mower and garden equipment. Getting fed up with replacing carburettor seals and float chamber valves.

Things will get a tad better come April 1. We are getting a 15c per litre rebate on fuel... Life has its little ups during an election year

That stuck in my throat last night as I refuelled for another removal journey South that can't wait till April.
Still I was appreciative that it had come down 30cts from when I returned last Saturday/Sunday but still only to the price I paid at Total on the autoroute.
Any news on your E85 conversion?
Is that bio-ethanol carburant? We are a big producer here and my pal had his Renault Something converted but has since sold it, it lost some power, consumed a bit more fuel but even then it was way cheaper.

France is applying the GNR rules to make it agriculture only from January next year.
The UK is doing it from April this year for red diesel.
So yes, similar rules apply.

Once here it is plug and play pretty well -all it does is open the injectors a little earlier when necessary. Simple electronics really. Yes, E85. Used to be 70c, now 92c. Always about half price of oil based fuel, but in theory should not take all the hits of sudden price rises. Yes, consumption is 20% more, but hey, even a saving of 50c per litre is better than a kick in the teeth. Unfortunately though, E85 is legally restricted to the lower end engine size. Overstepping the mark on this incurs the same enforcement penalties of being caught with red diesel

Sounds about right, I'm sure my pals old Renault the name of which I cant think was a 2 litre petrol automatic, I think it was plug n play back then were he able to source it but the local scammers were charging a fortune for pretending to do black art behind closed doors.

It would have been illegal to convert a 2 litre engine - although there was talk last year that the government were considering raising the level. It would never have gone as high as 3.5 litre, so I lost interest.
I bet all they did to your friend's car is to increase the pulse width of the injectors (I assume it was injection) and as you say, charge a pretty penny. The problem with this is that the injectors are wide all the time, whereas the engine should have had a fuel type sensor to narrow the width when it detected gasoline. The legal conversion boxes will do this.

There are innumerable options to peel off into a nearby towns and save a fortune, many barely a handful of km of a detour.
