Not too bad thank you for asking. Last of the staples came out yesterday and the nurse will pay a final visit on Sunday. He has reduced the painkillers but still in some discomfort. Apparently, the blood flows down which resulted in a massive bruise, in the small of his back. This is giving him the most gip. He is not really doing much, bending down is nigh on impossible but he is able to do some cooking, which gives me more time to walk the dog, bring in the wood, lay the fires etc. and this weekend cut the grass . Unfortunately, I am not cut out to be a carer, I do not have the patience, which is very selfish. A couple more weeks officially before he can travel in a car. He says he feels a little bit better day by day.

He says he feels a little bit better day by day. It is pleasing to hear that Mr ll is making progress. That must be a relief for both of you. Will he be having physio at some point ?

Yes, it is a relief. Physio hasn't been offered. He has to have an MRI scan in June, followed by an appointment with the consultant a week later. I suppose if he is still 'stiff' he can ask for kine then. The nurse recommended that he makes an appointment in due course with an oesteopath. I don't think that is covered by the healthcare, but if he needs it after consulting with the consultant, I'm sure we will follow that advice.

I was so pleased to read that things are going pretty well. Such injuries must take a long time to heal, I fear. Don’t beat yourself up about not feeling that you’re a very good carer - it’s very hard, along with getting everything else done each day, very tiring too.

I thought of you when I was making my 2 hour round trip to the hospital to visit. It must have been very stressful and tiring for you without transport visiting and taking care of your husband when you were in France. I was lucky in comparison that I had my own transport and even though I wasn't used to driving very much, I have now got used to it again.

How is it with your husband now. And just as important, how are you coping with having to do most things yourself?

Staples out next week and he is moving slowly with twinges. Can I borrow his twinges when he's done with them, please?

He is still not very good at bending (he is 6' 6" - so a long way to bend down) and unable to lift anything like he used to, but getting there slowly. His renovation jobs for this year have not progressed, although he is able to help me point the wall in small segments. A scan mid-June and then back to the consultant. Maybe he will get some physio ...... I'm doing fine, getting some time for 'me' things now but I did say that the garden is the worst it has ever looked. Weed pulling is not my favourite passtime and has been put on the backburner. I do hope that you are keeping well and not over-doing it in the circumstances.

Glad to hear he's progressing. 6ft 6 is tall, my youngest brother is 6ft 7 and my other siblings are all over 6ft, including my sister. I'm the shorty at 5ft 6. Our garden was my husbands pride and joy and he's frustrated by his inability to work on it, but that's the situation we're in and we have to live with it. I do what I can and have learned to protect my mental and physical health by learning to accept. Best wishes for a continued improvement.
