My microwave oven of 40 years plus has given up the ghost today and I’ve already missed it, I’m thinking of getting one of those flat bed types, as they look big enough to hold a bottle of wine which needs a warm, anyone got any experience of this type of machine?

No advice from me but thanks for raising the subject. I had to do a quick Internet search to find out what a flatbed meant. The biggest advance on earlier designs is the lack of a rotating plate. That would certainly appeal to us though a new one is not coming soon as we have one on the go and another sitting in the loft waiting it’s time.

A photo or link to a model you were "eyeing" would help..

I’m just at the research stage at the moment ibis, I haven’t settled on a particular make or model, although I’ll have to pretty soon.

Never heard of a flatbread Microwave, i thought they had to rotate for all the atoms to infiltrate your food?

Microwave ovens without a turntable have a stirrer fan to distribute the microwaves instead. Most commercial microwave ovens are without turntables. I prefer them as you can fit large dishes in without worrying if they will catch when they revolve. Also when I put my tea in to warm up, the handle is where I left it, not at the back of the oven where I can't reach it.

Even with milk i will drink it cold than heating it up again.
You have a commercial microwave in your casa? I would like to see your kitchen as they are not really made to integrate into household kitchens.

Ours must be a flatbed model but did not know it, no rotating table and you can put metallic dishes in it, it even has a sticker inside to suggest you put a tea spoon in a cup to heat up a drink, never tried that. It is a NEF make and not commercial, we have had it since 2017.

I'd never heard of one either, but on googling found the site microwave ninja. It talks about the best flatbed, pros and cons etc. if that is any help.

Our new Siemens is a flatbed combi, agree about the cup/jug handle being at the front were you left it, a lot easier.

I have one of each, both large pro models. The turntable model has what it call a boomerang table, it always returns to the same position as it started from, no lost handles.

I thought I'd be clever and put the handle at the back before hitting the button. It doesn't work.

The trouble with a flatbet nuker is that there is no action to watch while it is zapped. I mean, it is a bit like a telly.

Worry not. You can always watch the tumble dryer.
