Good luck. Hard slog ahead, but hard work helps keep the mind and body in tune. Enjoy the experiece - as I am sure you will - and keep us all abreast of the progress. Depends what state they are in to begin with. At 63 I was already on the downhill slope to take on a new project and had no idea how fast that ride would become. Good luck pcpa. At least you know what to expect and have the experience behind you to deal with it.

Good luck. Hard slog ahead, but hard work helps keep the mind and body in tune. It is seriously out of tune since the confinement and the loss of my business which kept me running around like a blue ar5ed fly and also the running club. Use it or lose it and I fear that a lot has been irrecoverably lost. I may have missed it but did you sell the apartments property? It will be mothballed once the Lycéen leaves at the end of this année scholaire, I have not spent more then a couple of days at a time there in the last 6 months, it has been used as a stopover and storage depot from my phased removal from the UK. That house will be sold at Easter, sold again that should be as there are no shortage of idiots and no shortage of borrowed money meaning they can buy a family home as their first property before they are any where near mature enough. our house goes on the market at the weekend as we take the first steps to either moving back to the UK or closing the business and retiring I wish you good luck Tim, decent desirable properties are selling as soon as the details are released if not before, I had no choice in the closure of my business but I will probably look back and see that Covid did me a favour. The big project for the Aéroport is now finally starting, other than the espoir of that I would have sold 4 years ago at the peak, thankfully because the project is now concretised the building will have as much value as it did with the business booming, whoever buys it will really clean up as there is no comparable competition and most of the hôtels and hebergeurs have closed down, but it would be like groundhog day for me to remain and restart.

At 63 I was already on the downhill slope to take on a new project and had no idea how fast that ride would become. That is what has really scared me, I was 61 at the beginning of the confinement fit, strong, healthy and an athlete, now all I can say is that I am healthy, I cannot believe how quickly has been the deterioration and I know from starting running again after Sepsis how much capacity you lose in only a month, how it takes 3-6 months to regain form but never to where you were before. This project is essential to me, the alternative of carrying on as I am despite it being no different to most people of my age is unthinkable, it will either make me or break me but nobody is forcing me or giving me deadlines.

63? Whippersnapper!
I started renovating here ten years ago at 64!
I will admit though not relishing another one - unless I can do it in Tonga or Seychelles - so taking the easy option and building a car instead...

I'm 61 in the summer and have been involved in over 20 renovations of varying sizes since I moved here in 2005 and think I've got one left in me which hopefully be will be our last home. The last bit is the most crucial, not setting a deadline and not beating your self up if you are struggling, I've made it very clear to my OH that I'm not going to kill myself just to get a project done by a certain date. Good luck with your new property.

I have never set deadlines, well not since stepping off the ride and no longer being answerable to others, I take each day as it comes and decide what I will do every morning when I wake, rarely can I answer a question about my movements which contains "when..........?" or "how long...........?" or "what are your plans for......?".
Friends and family still ask and they still cannot comprehend my answer "why would I give myself a deadline?" even after 17 years, they just assume that I won't tell them.
I am not intending this to be my last move but am prepared and accept that it could turn out to be so I chose carefully, it takes years to really get a feel for an area and the people to know if you were right, it can only be a positive step from the last place.
I have a piece of paper now saying that I own it but not the keys yet, that is down to my own incompetence and difficulties in urban city environments though.

Not very exciting: a Lotus Elan! I should have taken on something more challenging, but laziness set in! Plus, all the bits are readily available. I am starting by building a powerplant with new bits and then decide which way to go with the chassis, two seater or four.

Ah, no to both! When I say 'building', I mean exactly that - from scratch using new parts! As I say, not challenging as it is possible to buy all the main parts - engine, transmission, chassis and suspension - off the shelf. There are a surfeit of bodies lying around, so not difficult.

I have one awaiting a ground up renovation from me since 1997 I say one, with all the bits you collect over the years I probably have more like 2 now including a chassis that a restorer in Dieppe gave me which I brought back on my car roof, another Twincam engine that came out of a seven that I converted to a motorcycle engine racer and loads of other stuff that I will no doubt rediscover as stuff gets moved down to Nouvelle Aquitaine. She probably has another 10 years to wait and will have one more change of storage premises, I have to move many historic aircraft including a Korean war bomber in order to drag her out from where she has been for the last decade.
