No they are not back because they never went away, they have always sounded on the first Mercredi of the month around midi.

I was surprised to read that there was to be a return of sirens - they were working as normal when we were in France last October-December.

No they are not back because they never went away, they have always sounded on the first Mercredi of the month around midi. You might find it pretty calm in your new home, then I stand to be corrected (my hearing's not brilliant) but I've never heard one go off round here!

In my home town the siren sounded at 11am on Saturday which was also the time the pubs opened in those days. I swear you could hear a chorus of "They're open!", as it sounded. ICBMs will be raining down on us and old guys from Irvine will be pulling on their jackets and heading to the Crown.

We have one in La Rochefoucauld that goes off at midday every Sunday. If they set it off on a Wednesday too it might throw everyone into a panic!
