Let us know how you get on. Well the Taupier has been. He seemed quite thorough. What he had was a long metal rod with a handle (T shaped) and an applicator which was a long metal tube with a container on the end containing the gas pellets and a little switch which will release 1 pellet at a time. He stuck the rod in the ground to make a little hole and then released 3 pellets in the hole. He said that the pellet will release the gas when it comes into contact with moisture and that the gas will cover an area of approx 7m. He also said that it causes the mole's lungs to explode, but my wife didnt want to hear any more. LOL. He gave us a guarantee of 1 year. He was an old chap of 70 and turned up in a car with Taupier on the side and the name of his company. He said it was safe for our pets. I see you can buy a Phostoxin application kit online which is cheaper than what he charged, but the site did say that it was for professional use only. So we will see what happens!

We had Moles last year and the year before, but they seem to have moved on this year.......hopefully We have had them for quite a few years now and previous years I have tried a number of solar mole deterrents but they were useless. I did not fancy using the mole traps. So hopefully what we had done today will get rid of them. Looking into our neighbours garden he didn't seem to have any, nor the other side which is a big field.

They are moths Mysty. They will strip bare vegetation so remove them.
Sizewell. Try using old fashioned scissor mole traps. One mole can create havoc. I use them and manage to keep them at bay. The last one created 20+ molehills on my front lawn.

The most effective (and safe) way of dealing with caterpillar invasions of any sort is the product sold to treat Pyrale de Buis (Box moth caterpillars). There's also a version for Pine processionary caterpillars, but it's the same thing...bacillus thuringiensis. It's a bacteria in powder form that you mix with water and spray onto affected plants. It targets the caterpillars without harming anything else. Not expensive and available in large supermarkets, bricos and garden centres.

Thanks to all who answered not looking to wipe them out as the veg patch is at zero risk. I thought they had all died on the walls of the house but they were just waiting for the sun, on the move again.

The last one created 20+ molehills on my front lawn. Since the Taupier done his job, we have not seen any new molehills, so hopefully he eradicated them all. I did not fancy using the traps, because I would have to retrieve the traps and did not relish the idea of extracting the dead moles from the traps. Gassing them, they stay underground and unseen.

Kill them all ! leave none alive . Poor little beasts , done no one harm except to mess up your lawn ( nice flat and green )

I share your pain, cernunnos, but it's not strictly true that they do no harm. They prey on earthworms, and when you've gone to a lot of trouble to improve lifeless, unfertile soil and encourage worms, moles are a real nuisance. Beautiful little animals, but gardening is all about striking a balance...

Beautiful little animals, but gardening is all about striking a balance... I agree there houpla , we have moles , our cat ( singular) catches any that are in our veg garden , the rest live out their lives happily underground . You are the first person that I have heard saying that the reason that they kill moles is because they eat earthworms , mostly it is because they "mess up our lawn " which I find no reason to kill them , but that is just my personal look at life. If we killed everything that doesn't fit into our particular lifestyle , lets start with the neighbours !
