Mains water metre is being installed, everything is there, the regards etc, its the only property not to have taken it up which I have learned is against the law! - not that they cared or risked anything.
It's held up because the technicians are not capable of finding an a house with a number in a street of consecutively numbered houses, they need a plan de masse and a plan de situation. No doubt once they get there they wont be able to find their regard beside the front gate to recieve the meter
The well water will continue to feed everything in the house and the mains will be for the caravane where I will be living for the foreseeable future.

I will be having the well water tested, I dont need the results to know that it's going to be dodgy, the well is less than 1.5m from the cultivated field behind (no doubt loads of pesticides) and only a few paces from the leaky brick cesspit where all the sewage and wate water goes.

Is it really against the law? We are .75 kilometre outside the village in a very small hamlet of 2. When we bought the house 10 years ago, we asked if we were going to get mains water as at the time, the house water was a spur off the neighbours (non-mains) and that wasn't allowed. We were told that it wasn't possible to bring mains water to us, so we had a forage installed for about 6k. About 3 years ago our neighbour informed us that the mayor wanted to know if we wanted mains as they would bring it to the hamlet and that we would have to pay for the work to bring it to the house from there. Even if we didnt want it brought to the house and just had a meter for a possible future, we were told it would cost us about E.100 each year. We said no, as we had paid 6k at the beginning for the forage etc. We haven't heard anything else since.

No need to panic LL, chancer is right and wrong. If someone was buying a building to convert into a house the CU could be refused unless there was accès to mains water and electricity. You have a house 🏠 We bought a watermill in 2014 the CU will only be issued if we connect to mains water and electricity which we have not done yet.

It is against the law (for what little that is actually worth) to not subscribe to mains water if it is available, I only discovered this recently from an article in the local paper about 2 houses on the end of a street that had their own supply from a pumping station that they had funded themselves, the water company purchased the shed and the 6m2 of land that it sat on, installed their own pumps and connected the houses to the mains supply.
The house I bought has never been connected to the mains supply which has been there for at least 10 years not connected to the tout à l'egout, a condition of the acte de vente was that I make the sewerage connection within 12 months which I will do, nothing was said about the mains water but I have applied for the raccordement anyway, not sure how they would bill me for the sewerage if they don't have a mains water consumption to base it on.

My humble apologises sir, did the notaire ask you to get an estimate for the mains drainage before you signed the contract. It can cost anything from 5000/10000 depending on the distance and the company that does the work unless the pipe is already on your land.

There is a tabouret de raccordement (their name, I call it un regard) right on my boundary, we are digging the trenches for that and the water supply tomorrow.
Th only work that I would consider subbing out will be the placo bandes and the external insulation if it will be covered by Ma Prime Rénov.
