France can sell one aeroplane or missile and cover what most of the retired old folks on this forum put into the economy; who likely pay no income tax on their measly pensions in France.
Britian needs a system like California or even Spain for it's agricultural allowing immigrants to come over, work, get paid a decent sum and then go back home. The economy here is not about Impots alone, many people we know spend in the region of €500 or more a month, in shops, online or wherever, all adding to the overall economy of France. Britain did have an excellent system and Brexit blew it apart, now crops rot in the fields. If it was not a person from the island or another 3rd world country then France would still get by without your little contribution... It is a pittance compared to the real economy of France, not your or even all of the british in France.

I think that applies to many here. Just filled up the oil tank and the bill was the wrong side of €2k. Never been more than 1200€ before.
life is going to get hard no matter where we sit on the wealth spectrum.

It is only money rich federations - UEFA, FIFA, rugby(dont know, dont care what the abbreviation is) that each of your "states" - scotland, wales are even considered..

I'm hoping with the warmer weather we can get through to next winter now before a refill, dread to think what it might cost then.....

We shall have to disagree, all economies are based on parts, we may not make a big difference but a difference we make, especially in some areas.

Response copied to the correct quoted thread, I had not realised there was another page and thought I was responding to the previous comment, a frequent occurrence on this forum
Family of four very easy to spend €500 a month, I'm afraid with bills, food, cars and house insurances, water, electric, our outlay is well over €12k......it's not getting any cheaper here, then there's holiday (s) lunches, dinners, the list goes on and on. I can give you lessons not sure how I can help though 😀
[/div]
I suspect the lessons were requested as to how to spend so little, I lived for several years on €347 per month, they were the bad years (for me) around 2008, the only time I was forced to do a paper spreadsheet of my budget and expenses which is how I know exactly how much it was, the figure is burned into my memory, it would not be possible today but €500 would possibly cover the same expenses and lifestyle, I don't want to find out, it would have been impossible then and now to do so in the UK on €347 or €500 per month so I guess back then I was an economic migrant.
Are you really an economic migrant if you choose to live in a country because you can have more food, drink, wine, eating out etc for less money rather than having to move because you simply could not afford to maintain a roof over your head and feed yourself in your country of birth/nationality?

I can fully agree with your figures. I was living on roughly the same during that period. I am aware that it would have been completely impossible to live on that in UK, England, whatever the pedants want to call it.
I had to sell a house I owned (with no mortgage) on the south coast back in the late 90's because I couldn't find enough employment to keep the home related bills paid. The proceeds enabled me to buy and rebuild a sailboat that was big enough to live on full time and fed me until such times as my (reduced) pension kicked in. Since I was then mobile with low overheads I left to look for better weather. France had a lot going for it in terms of expenses and property ownership. And the people were not judging me by what designer clobber I wore or what sort of car I drove. Was I an economic migrant? I guess so. I thank my lucky stars I could afford something more upmarket than a rubber dinghy. My floating home sold for enough to buy my first hovel in France and do it up. Sadly a relationship breakdown forced the sale and I lost 50% of the proceeds. Having to start the process a second time at age 60 hasn't been easy, but totally impossible across the Channel.

That is the definition of an economic migrant isn't it? Someone who moves from one place to another because they can have a better job/life/ money will go further... It's only because we tend to view this term negatively that we have a problem with it isn't it? When I emigrated to Canada in 1982 I did it very much for economic reasons..in that I could earn more money and have a better standard of living.
