Just a thought but are a lot of us not economic migrants in France? Most come here looking for a better life, cheap property wine and mortgage free.

We live in France because we like it here , have done for more than 30 years, pay taxes and speak French . There were very few Brits in France when I first bought the house , so no , we are not economic migrants , just French citizens from a different country , as are many here.

Okay lets look at this reply and change a couple of bits. Africans want to live in the UK because they will like it there. they could make a lot of money over 30 years and help others in Africa. There are lots of Africans and Afgans in the UK and they cannot afford to buy a house. They are ecoomic migrants just wanting a better life. What right have we got to say no to that. edit posted this before I saw your last post and no I do not think your a racist, you cannot tell from a couple of posts

Why the concern? Just to post on a forum? As to your post before the (edit); you do not have a right, there(uk) or in France to have any say in the matter in what the rules are for people to enter or yearly numbers for those that want to; uk or france to work or live.

My great grand parents came to the UK from Eastern Europe so why should others not be allowed?

your Points: Why do you think that Africans will like to live in the UK ? They don't know how racist the Brits are! We do not send any money back to the UK, just spend it here. They could help Africa better , by staying there? There are many French in France that cannot afford to buy a house, because ..... the house prices have been inflated by Brits( and others_) buying second homes ! I agree , economic migrants are not a problem , so long as the country that they migrate to, looks after their own people, which the UK doesn't . I have no opinion about eco-migrants , so long as they don't come here!!

The French are incredibly racist and the constant level of support for MLP and her party is testament to that, the UK on the other hand is fast becoming one of the most diverse populations in Europe, of course racism exists in the UK but it's ridiculous to say that Africans shouldn't come to the UK because everyone's a racist.
There are 2 million empty houses here in France but unfortunately they're in rural areas which is not where people want to live as there are no jobs and very few facilities, second homes tend to be in the country or around the coast so have very little effect on the general affordability of housing.
You may not believe this but France is experiencing the same type of labour shortages in certain sectors as the UK and for the same reason - the young don't want to work in the fields or vines, drive lorries or now even wait on tables so the country may have to accept more eco-migrants.

Yes, all true for the labour shortages but under a strict, controlled regime for immigration...
Your 2 million empty houses are another thing though. The ones in the countryside (rural) are again 2nd homes, probably family homes, these will need to raised and turned into farming land for the future of France. . The ones on the coast are 2nd homes and need to be taxed as such if vacant for the majority of the year. These "2nd" homes make it so that the locals cannot afford to live there, the children of the locals cannot stay there.. It is a problem.

Well I will hold my hand up and agree to being an economic migrant due to house and land prices. You can add in the cost of my subscriptions to French magazines and the cost of buying French model railway items.
Of course if property were the only issue I would have ended up in Bulgaria or Morocco.
Quality of life and ambiance are also essential items as is an ability to converse (albeit badly).
