Some researchers recently discovered evidence that the Bard might have died from Tubercolosis. Other scientists have disputed the claim. So we are left pondering TB or not TB

Act one, scene one. Enter three witches. 10 to 9 every morning when the first of the typing pool arrived at work. Who thought open plan was a good idea?

Sorry, if you are including poets, hands down the world's most celebrated and commemorated poet is Robert Burns.

Only if your world starts at Mull of Galloway and ends in the Shetlands Matsuo Basho perhaps, if Japanese. Can't even really narrow it down to the English-speaking world, because it's not English, Jim, not as we know it!

There are indeed around 30 statues to the great man between the Rhinns and Shetland though none on either. However the majority of statues of Burns are located overseas, plus three in England. Auld Lang Syne is the second most widely sung song in the world after Pattie and Mildred Hill's "Happy Birthday To You." And let's not forget Burns Night. Is there anyone other than Christ celebrated more widely? You're weclome.

Agreed about Burns as a poet but he died on 21st July so does not qualify for the original question. I still have to read the English “translations” of his poetry to make reasonable sense of it all.

I appreciate that but I was directly referring to the Wordsworth/Brooke post in addition to foolishly conflating English and British. Apologies.
