Does whoever wins tomorrow (looks like Macron which is a great relief) need to win by any margin to give them the power they need to do stuff? i.e. does a tight margin affect stuff at all?

I think in June there are regional elections. Those will decide how much power the majority (51% +) elected tomorrow has.

Nothing will change for you JD, you will still have your 90/180 days as a tourist.
Um, maybe your taxes could go higher. Sorry.

The Présidentielles will decide the head of State and the Législatives in June will decide the constitution of the Assemblée Nationale...the French equivalent of the Houses of Parliament. The Prés can propose laws that the AN approve or amend, but can only over-ride them in exceptional circumstances.

I'm pretty certain of that too it being the (slightly) lesser of two evils. Such a shame, as we finally had a choice for change but when it comes right down to it, the French are just as media-led as the Brits, even more reluctant to upset their status quo. Or perhaps it's just not the moment.....on verra bien demain
