I am posting on behalf of a dear friend who has become very disabled with MS. She is bilingual French/English, living near Moulins on the borders of Allier/Cher/Nievre departments She is in need of an additional carer to support her one existing carer. She has had very bad experiences in the past with neglectful and uncaring agency staff, and it is proving impossible to find anyone through the usual official channels. I can't help feeling there must be a kind-hearted and capable carer out there somewhere who could help (paid, of course). My friend recently moved from Paris to be cared for by another friend near Moulins, but it is proving to be too much for one person to manage; and unless they find someone local very soon to provide relief support, she will have to return to Paris, to live alone with uncaring carers (unless someone good can be found in Paris?!). I am in the UK and unable to help from here other than trying to find someone. If you are in a position to help, or know someone who is, please put them in touch with me through here. THANK YOU.

I cannot help Lottie, but I can certainly empathise with your friend's predicament. When I was the primary carer for my father I experienced both the best and the worst of agency carers and I understand the importance of finding the 'right' people. I did in fact end up with a fantastic team of carers who all helped to make my father's life and mine a pleasure. I do hope your friend is successful in her search for someone.

It may help to state if you are looking for a live in carer or an additional visiting carer Lottie, I asked a friend of mine but they are too far away but that was the question they asked......Does she have access to a French pension was the next question he asked?

I have someone who may be able to help Lottie, I can't promise it will lead to anything, but its worth a shot, can you PM me an email address you are happy for me to pass on to someone who can connect you with the carer for you to discuss? Please PM and not post in this thread.

Thanks so much to all of you who have replied so far - really kind of you take the time. To answer a couple of questions, live-in may be possible, though living nearby is preferable... My friend is living with friends of hers, who may be able to put someone up. My friend was living alone in Paris, with agency 'carers' visiting twice a day; their care was so appalling that her life was hell (we're talking broken bones through being dropped, lack of basic care), and she moved a few weeks ago to live with a close friend near Moulins who had offered to care for her - made adaptations to the house etc - and at last my friend had the prospect of living with people who love her. But the kind-hearted host is finding the task exhausting and needs a helping hand - even if only a few days a week. As for the question about a pension - my friend is a French national (though she lived much of her life in the UK); she is not yet of retirement age, but is entitled to a French pension eventually. I will forward the details of the CCAS in Moulins (thank you, Suein56), though I know all formal channels have been investigated. Unbelievably, there simply are not any carers available, it would seem. Not sure what folk are supposed to do...??!!
