I'm still masking when inside and will carry on doing so until it becomes illegal againI'm sure you did not mean that the way it was written but equally I can't work out what you wanted to say. There was a case recently of a Carrefour invoking a 2010 law banning face coverings to stop customers wearing masks in the shop. Rather like having to remove crash helmets. I can see a time when people will have to justify the wearing of a mask rather than the not wearing of one. Hopefully by that time the chance of catching a severe case of Covid will be a thing of the past.

We still wear our masks when amongst people that we don't know , supermarkets and restaurants included . The virus is still around and can progress into something more deadly at any time. Mask wearing is not a problem for us.

Am in Paris for the weekend, and can report that the masking rule is scrupulously adhered to in buses and on metro. Unlike London, where I was the only mask wearer aboard the tube train I travelled to St Pancras on.

Is it a rule to do so in the UK?

Masks are not legally required anywhere although some places - hospitals, medical practices and such like - may still require one.

In Paris nobody was wearing masks outside public transport and railway stations. In fact I found it a bit unnerving at times, because SO much pavement is taken up by café and restaurant tables and chairs that pedestrians are pushed into very close proximity to each other in the remaining areas. Eurostar were very strict about it on the Paris end, both in the waiting areas and on the train unless you were actually eating or drinking. Also, it just occurs to me, I had to show proof of vaccination to French officials at the London end before being allowed to board the train to Paris, but there was no vaccination check by British officials for the return.

Yes, my last trip to the UK was as fuss free as it used to be so I was caught out coming back to France thinking it would be the same, I had to show my vaccination certificate but they have stopped bothering themselves with asking for and checking Carte de Séjours.

I am assuming that you were in a French registered vehicle so they probably made the correct assumption regarding your status.

Possiblty but I get the distinct impression that they are keen to get back to the old days where travellers did not intrude on their social interactions.
There always seem to be two in the cabins chatting to each other but only one with the green light on accepting traffic, the time before last all I saw was the back of the guys head and his open hand held out so engrossed was he with his binome, the passport was scanned and returned & barrier opened without ever once having looked at me.
The last time my passport was not asked for even to glance at, only the vaccination certificate was required.
When the vaccination requirement is dropped they will go back to leaving all the barriers open and the lights green, maybe just a look to see if you are holding up something that looks like a passport.
It is why I chuckle when people work themselves up into such a state about having an attestation d'accueil when a family member visits.
