Having just paid out £200 for an animal health certificate to come to France, I think I need to get a French passport for the dog when I come over next week.
Have any travellers to their holiday homes already done this?

Pre Brexit, we just went to our French Vets and asked for a French passport along side our U.K. one, and it was no trouble at all, also annabellespapa on here has done similar and is currently in France on it.

Our friends who have a second home here got an EU passport for their dog. All details from UK are accepted for an EU passport.

Just returned from the vets with a French pp for the return trip on Sunday. It is already filled in for the usual worming treatment. The only snag was that his microchip had to be registered with the French system, Icad, and this took two and a half weeks for the confirmation letter to be returned here. In fact it also arrived today but the vet had told us she could have checked online to see if the application had been processed and completed the pp with that information.
Now let’s see if it works! We needed the old pp to verify earlier data such as rabies jabs. We must keep the old pp available as proof.
We have a secondaire and that address is entered in the pp.

Just one observation.
Having a French/EU passport means that this has to be kept up to date according to French/EU rules. So for example annual rabies injection - good value provided you can get back to the EU to get it done.

Ours are due renewal next year since 2019. All others are annual |

Ours are due renewal next year since 2019. All others are annual From what I gather the rules have become a bit confused. If you stay in the country of vaccination the three year rule (validity supplied by the vaccine manufacturer) applies but if you cross national borders then the 1 year rule that was in place in the past for all vaccinations, applies. Certainly our vet checks regularly that we are not going abroad before not giving the rabies vaccine. [ Going anywhere with 19 cats! ] |

We still live in hope we can visit family in September but it depends on the rules regarding quarantining etc. I'll ask my vet next time I go to get flea treatment. Also, are blood tests necessary as was once reported? |

Stage 1 done, application for icad registration posted....
Should have the passeport français in a few weeks.

Our new pp certainly worked on the way back to the UK but I will always carry his other passports until I have made several return trips without anyone asking for some original evidence not contained in his new, French issued pp.
You must be feeling happier now that the process is underway.

Just returned from France, got french pet passport during the trip. vet transferred details from his old pet passport, he did recommend that we keep his old one with his new French one. Now fingers crossed that everything is OK on next trip out, anyone had any issues? We use the tunnel an the pet passport control suggested getting the french one

We have indeed made the next trip back to France. The Brittany Ferries agent at check-in just followed the normal procedures and did not comment on the French EU pet passport. So, we have tested the new pp in both directions without any problem.
We intend to have his rabies jab in France in 18 months time and ask for a repeat of the three year version.

So the passport process went like this:
Trip to vets who did the icad documents. They needed the UK passport and the UK animal health certificate.
Posted the application with a cheque for about 9€. Icad wrote back needing a photo copy of the AHC which I duly posted.
Icad docs turned up a week later.
Went to the vet, got the passport, cost €30. Also had the rabies booster€22, the vet assured me the vaccination was valid for 3 years, even for international travel.
Note the rabies is not valid for travel for 21 days, so I returned the dog on the UK passport and AHC.
