Do I understand that fixed price house agents are coming to France, like Purple Bricks or equivalent? Of course there will be an outcry by established agents who will do their dam nest to stop them. But, could they work here, would there be a saving for consumers?

The agent I (had no choice but to) bought through was so convinced he would be wasting his time selling the property especially at the price they wanted that he would only accept the commission from the buyers at a fixed fee, it worked out at probably double what they would have paid using the astronomical high commission rate.
I am paying 1% in the UK to the agent in the village who sells 95% of the homes there on the market, the service has been worth half that.

It seems the norm and they take better pictures too!!

But, could they work here, would there be a saving for consumers? If this is the case, then not before time! I love France, but really, so many things are in a Victor Hugo time warp, not only regarding arrogant commission structures, but the methods - eg cheques! Apart from the antiquation (and the enjoyment of the ritual if my local LeClerc is anything to go by..) of actually writing a cheque, but to still indicate where it is being written for heavens sake! It is quite laughable And do not get me going on the procedures and commissions to invest on the stock market in France... It is not necessarily the likes of Purple Bricks is needed, but just for the existing enterprises to get real. But I guess the only way this will happen is bring in the big guns. I see a couple of Cazoo type operations advertising on TV now, so maybe the second hand car market will shake itself up soon...

You used to have agencies in France called 4% but they did not last long. The taxes charges and cost would not leave a lot of profit. 1% will not last here.
