A page turns.......
As you may know I have not been very active on the forum recently. Maybe time to give something of an explanation.
About four years ago we were debating what to do about retirement, getting a camping-car, where we were going to live in retirement etc.
Then three years ago, I decided I'd had enough of my job and had enough income from my pension, so I retired.
Then covid struck. My wife, who had been uncertain when to stop working, started to work from home, which suited her, so she was content to carry on for the time being.
After the first wave and lockdown, we then finally invested in a camping-car. We instantly fell in love with the camping-car lifestyle and knew it would be a big part of our future plans.
A subsequent camping-car holiday made us think about the possibility of living elsewhere in France. For that we would need to sell our house.
In October last year, Americans who were staying at our friends gîte expressed their frustration with their search for a house and finding nothing that met their needs. Our friend said that he knew of such a house that wasn't yet for sale but could be. Ours!
A couple of days later they visited our house and instantly fell in love with it. They asked how much we were asking and we had to say we didn't know as we hadn't been ready to sell but would find out.
We then got three agents around on the basis we wanted to know what the house was worth to help us plan our retirement.
After taking the lower end of the highest range and the highest end of the lower range and averaging, we arrived at a price that was what we wanted to get in our minds.
They agreed the price and that was that. The upshot is that Monday the Acte de Vente was signed and we now have considerably more in our bank account than the other day.
Finally, my wife decided to retire at the end of April, and I took a year out from the pompiers. We then moved to our small house in a neighbouring village that was an investment property until 2 weeks ago.
New adventures now beckon. We are off to the UK for a whole month (because we can), seeing friends and family (June is a prolific birthday month). Then back here to home for July and August (not worth venturing out in the camping-car, which has incidentally just passed its' CT) ,and a spot of local house hunting.
In September if we don't find a suitable house here we will be off in our camping-car, probably to the Dordogne.
All exciting stuff, wish us luck!
