Good luck LA, we've started the same journey and even if we don't sell the house quickly I hope to retire next year and like you buy a camper and travel around Europe and the UK.

Good luck from me to. op is a similar story to ours > 24years ago.
We left in a converted van with a large dog but without too many hard plans. Edit. Make that no plans, just possibilities, and no pension. We were going to look for a place to settle. Though I wrote without plans, we had done a bit of research on various properties and went to take a look at them. We also looked at dozens of others in France and Spain.. Bout three months later we ended up with Carol. The 31st of August sticks in my mind.

A bit random, but I do enjoy the Australian term Grey Nomad.
The retirees who wander the country/globe in their camper...
I wouldn't want to do it 365 days per year, but what a lifestyle!

I had a full head of dark hair before I was considered persona non grata by the Australian Government. They put me on the road to becoming a grey nomad.

Lapourtaider.
Give me some notice to try and get back in shape, 2 years ago I may have been at your level, things have slid since the confinement, it will be good to have a goal to work towards. Use it or lose it!

Time to bring this thread to conclusion.
One Tuesday in August I cycled past a house 2km from where we are currently living. It had been up for sale for a while but we'll over our price range. I took a photo of the private for sale board with its number. After checking on line we saw that it was still for sale but at a price almost within range of what we could afford.
A few days later on Friday we visited the house with the daughter of the deceased owner. We had already decided that if the house lived up to our expectations and requirements we would offer there and then.
After going round the house and garden with the couple trying to repress our smiles and then going around again on our own discussing what needed to be done, we offered right at the top of our budget taking into account notaire fees, but 30 grand below the online price. She said she would need to talk to her brother and would let us know after the weekend.
The following day she rang accepting our offer. We were overjoyed.
For various reasons it took a tense month to go to compromis but we were assured during that time that they would show no-one else around. We finally signed the compromis on the 9th September and were able to depart on holiday in our camping car to the Dordogne for two weeks the following day and totally relax.
We signed the acte de vente on Thursday and took possession.
Now the hard work starts.
I'd add a picture but currently they are too large.
