They are not that distant you need to be close to get pepper sprayed and whacked with a truncheon 😀

They are aggressive compared to UK police. I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of them.

What would you rather have - stinging eyes? a bump on the noggin? Or 21 bullets in you?

Police are universal a***holes. That's why the debate is always about who has the worst force and never who has the best. The best the great defender of cops who used to be on here could offer in defence of the MET was that Police Scotland are worse. Imagine, with all the career choices in front of you as a youngster, you choose to be a cop? Worse, a special constable or whatever they're called now.

Typical Graudian commentary, glossing over the fact of their being two sides to every story.
Of course the CRS were provoked - the sad side of football fans orchestrated trouble, EXACTLY as they did at their holy grail of Wembley that, if you remember was more of a shit show than Paris - why? because the Met do not have a CRS.
I ask the question yet again - it is always this 'football' game that produces all this nonsense. When was the last time the CRS were called out for a game of rugby?

Surprisingly, with ice hockey & american football (violent sports) they are the one places were both fans mingle, party together afterwards but with this "girls" game - soccer, they fight and cause trouble.

French police have a reputation for disproportionate use of their crowd control weapons be that at a football match or street protest, just look at the incredible injuries suffered by Gilet Jaune protestors. The type of people that follow rugby and football are completely different which goes some way to explain why there is often crowd trouble at football matches, from the very start football was a 'working class' game whereas rugby's origin can be traced to a public school.

A sense of proportion is needed. The French populace are not generally armed to the teeth with military grade weapons like they are in the states.

Sorry but I can't take any comment from a US citizen seriously when they start talking about fatal police shootings, sort out your own country's failings first and then come back to me.

Yeah, like its his responsability to sort out his country, someone retired overseas who may not have lived in the country of his birth for most of his life.
