We stood in our back garden and watched the first few succesful broods of swallows flying around the house this morning. The young perching on the house guttering to be fed or being fed in mid-air by their parents, what a wonderful sight . It gives us joy and a little contentment, not all is doom and gloom!

Reminds me of my time in El Peurto de Santa Maria in Spain. I would walk home from work on a Saturday lunchtime, not a soul on the street (except mad dogs and Englishmen) being swarmed by swallows zipping through and screaming at me.
