bugger bugger bugger. Had the vet to see to my donkey's abscess caused by scratching against a tree, nasty deep pus ridden hole on his withers. Cat died this morning, other cat had to be put down because of age and a tumour. A large vodka to toast their lives and to cheer me up a bit. Like they say, there is livestock and there is deadstock. Bugger, bugger, bugger.

I was very sorry to read that, PE. Our animals are a big part of our lives and when they are ill it affects us badly and when they leave us they leave big gaps in our lives.

So sorry to hear you've lost 2 cats in one day. Do you have others?
Poor donk. Gravity won't help to drain the abscess there. What did the vet recommend as treatment. Can you keep the flies off?
I'm raising a glass to you and yours.

Thanks all for your thoughts. I still have one cat. the vet pumped the donkey's wound with betediene sterilizer and gave him a huge dose of antibios. I have to inject him with the stuff for five days and spray blue oxytetrin in the abscess hole in the morning when I clean the wound. I am using a zebra pattern flysheet neckpiece to keep the flies off and tied back to a lunging circingle that I had laying around. He helps himself by standing deep in the shade in the woods where the flies are less worrisome. Tending to him takes my mind off the rest.

Condolences to you. It always hits deep when our animals come to the end or are suffering. They get treated like members of the family, when they are with us and when they go.

So true. My little upset is quite trivial compared to the problems some of you have on here that don't bear thinking about. I only posted from the sadness of the moment. Thanks again for all your comments, a bugger shared.. as they say.
