Who Knows and who Trusts ? Bearing in mind the considerable cost of this drug www.ema.europa.eu/en/medicines/human/EPAR/emendand that I understand some users claim that it makes them feel worse, I wonder what trials have been done as to its efficacy and if it’s use is all part of the System’s way of clawing back some of the money invested in the care and treatment of patients.

The European medicines agency review all the trial data and make a decision as to whether the benefits outweigh the risks. I would trust their approval process as OH used to work for them, so I know they are rigorous and independent. As to whether it is value for money, that is for the individual health authorities to decide. If you are effected by side effects, as with most drugs, you stop taking it and try something else.

Is takes a certain thought process to get a handle on the cost of medicine how the money is raised and where it goes and know about where the greater interest lies.
I thought that the cost of the drug in the link was a bit ott and difficult to fathom. From memory when I was taking it, 3 x per week for 6 or 7 weeks, I seem to remember that either one capsule or one dose of three capsules I x 125 mg + 2 x 80 mg. Was over €160. I was a bit gobsmacked at the price.
Though, it seems, I needn’t have been. From a conversation with oh at supper, it seems that, a friend of hers is seriously ill and needs one capsule of some drug every day and the cost of a single capsule is about £2000. I do not know the prognosis, but the median survival rate for the illness is 29 months. It may also be relevant that the Government of the UK are supposed to pick up the tab.

It was a miracle drug for my husband 2nd time round. The first cancer, and subsequent chemoradiation, was horrendous and no one prescribed Amend. 2nd cancer, again chemoradiation, and Amend made his life so much easier, relatively speaking.
