On Saturday we are pulling a barn down, we sold the house that comes with it they knocked us down like 7000 but asked if that would include the barn demolished which was not an issue as we had a French builder who would clear the site free of charge as he was keeping the stone. So a win win for us. The builder turned out to be wallyhead who stopped answering us. We got a company out and expected to pay around 3000/4000 plus tva, his devis was 7200 inc tva he wanted the stone as well. So doing it with my digger. Lots of pictures over the weekend, I got my digger half way there today it was hours from the Cher. Mr Man who wanted 7200 said there is 200m2 of stone but I think he was at it as we all are

There's some good stones on the lower half, especially that archway.

It gets collected on Saturday and will be fitted on someone's farmhouse he is bringing several friends to load it. He got it free of charge probably worth money but did not want to have to move it.

I often wondered about the cost of demolition when I was looking for a house. Some lovely plots with wrecks on them. I have watched more than a few old houses slowly fall to the ground of their own accord here in Brittany. Once the roof is neglected the timbers rot. When there's nothing keeping the weather off the top of the walls the rain washes the mud mortar out from between the stones. Then gravity takes over. No need for demolition.

Just the one quote, Tom who used to be on the old forum paid 8000 for a large two or three story barn demolished and the land cleared. We could have probably found someone cheaper but we need to make money.

The lucky new owner is going to be very proud of that stone arch.
Years from now they will be pointing it out to people, letting slip that its not actually an original feature of their property but a recycled item they incorporated during their renovation, that they got it for nothing from a kind soul on the internet/Facebook.

It's not that unusal to see stone used in old building that were taken from a Châteaux years ago. The house we are moving to. in the Limousin has a couple of very unusual stone window surrounds and others that were just the bog standard straight cuts. He may just be taking it to sell he wants the corner stones as well but used right in an old building it could look origional.

Beautiful archway , you didn't try to sell it online? Yes tried offering it at 1000 with all the corner stones which was for nothing, no interest. One person asked how much for ten corner stones I asked for 100 and never heard from them again. If you look online they ask a lot of money but unless your very lucky they dont sell very quickly. We are making enough of the house selling the stone would not be worth the bother of moving it.
