We all know about this law but what about car parks 🤔 Taken from FB
Just a word of warning, Frances ' archaic rules of giving priority to drivers coming in from the right isn't just confined to country lanes. It apparently operates in car parks. Having been broadsided in LeClercs car park in La Souteranne by a car pulling out from the right, I am deemed to be at fault. Has cost me €300 plus loss of no claims discount, first accident on 18 years! Am right royaly pissed off!

Thanks Mysty for the head up on that, I get really confused on Supermarket car parks and DIY stores in France as the road markings seem slightly different to the main roads (maybe just in my head) and I always have to remind myself which country I am in and the rules/etiquette, only last month I exited a Brico L'Eclerc and went around the island the wrong way with a fully loaded builders trailer, French passenger shrieked, he was 16 stone and sounded like a small child, no accident as it was quiet but when distracted/things to get done etc its happens so easy.

It should be noted that car parks open to public use are covered by the same rules that cover the roads.

FB nonsense again, please, priorité à droite, archaic rules in France? Have a look at the rest of the EU member states... To complete the picture for la douce France. Le refus de la priorité à droite : 135 € d’amende et 4 points en moins. Source.

@ laportaider: the guy was fleeced? Main roads not having priority? Please..... Any vehicle travelling on the main road and crossing the exit of a car park, a private road or dead end, or a housing estate has priority at the crossroads. The right of way rule does not apply. Here comes the judge.

I know the car park and for a couple of years, I'm guessing, that situation hasn't existed. Before the new petrol station and car park layout that junction was an accident waiting to happen. Knock for knock in a car park unless you concede. You're a mug if you do.

The junction in question. Unmarked in the aerial shot but since before covid it's been a give way or more likely a stop since the new roads on the seemingly undeveloped part are now. An old post I think.

The problem I found with Priorité à droite in France was that frequently observance was based more on local habit and custom than the letter of the law.
Case in point, the lane down which I lived was Priorité à droite where it joined the main road yet in 11 years the one and only vehicle which ever actually gave way to me was a Dutch motorhome!

From other EU countries and even the Swiss judge back to France, an article in La Nouvelle RĂ©publique. A parking is not a special case with is own rules or no regs at all. Common sense in those busy parkings, pedestrians, cars all around you, can be helpful.

Long ago on TF this subject raised its head and brought it to my attention for the first time. There was a junction just north of Paris, on the N1 at Saint-Denis where I was in regular conflict with others when it was I who in the wrong. I had a minibus full of CRS laughing at me once when I sounded my horn and gesticulated at the driver. Never assume you know everything until you join a French forum. Then still don't.
