I was hoping that Dylan would reply because I did not want to assume his reasoning was ethanol content in the fuel. But if it was then 5% or 10% ethanol will equally damage any susceptible plastic carburettor parts like diaphragms. However this thread is about a 4 stroke mower engine which has a gravity fed float bowl and does not contain the diaphragms necessary for the functioning of a 2 stroke engine operating in various orientations. Other than perhaps a Viton needle valve seat which will not be affected by Ethanol all the other mower carburettor parts in contact with the fuel are brass, aluminium or stainless steel and these mowers will run happily on fuel containing ethanol, all of mine run happily on it, its only my 2 stroke machinery that has begun to play up after hibernation in recent years. Soon I am going to try my 1960 Villiers engined dammeuse on E85 fuel.
Thinking about it the float in modern carburettors is likely to be plastic but I would say it will be Ethanol resistant for the simple reason that every fuel now contains at least 5% ethanol, perhaps it could cause an issue with an older carb that had an early plastic float, not a problem for my vintage machines that all have soldered brass floats which in any case I can repair if they become holed.

As an afterthought, I should have stressed the importance of only using SP 98 fuel.It is also a good idea to fit a fuel tap in the supply line before the carburettor. I resist getting involved in these subject threads as everyone is usually an expert. BUT I do not like inaccuracies as down the line someone pick it up thinking it is gospel. SP98 requires a higher compression to ignite properly. SP requires less. As the average mower motor is of low compression, SP95 is better... As for the old chestnut argument of Ethanol, 10% is fine for small motors made in the last ten years and probably 20.

Well it's fixed. Carb changed - oil changed - plug cleaned and blew the cylinder empty. Autoportee discount - slightly more than AliExpress or eBay but delivered Monday after ordering Thursday - 25 euros. Still a cheap Chinese bit just quicker delivery
