Where do i go if I wanted a blood test in France for Cholesterol levels? Does a pharmacy do it, or a MAISON DE SANTE ?

Here it is the infirmary nurses that do it. Not sure if they can do it without a prescription though.

Go to your doctor and get a ordannance, take it to your nearest lab. or the nurse , but they just send it to the lab. We have ours done every year and get the results online the same day.

Go to your nearest doctor and pay 25 euros , get your ordannance. Take the ordannance to lab. and pay , get the results in the post.

I don't have a doctor here not being resident...... You can go to your nearest Laboratory and ask for a 'prise de sang' providing you can explain exactly what tests you require on the blood sample. You don't need an 'ordonnance' .. you will receive a bill from the Lab which will need paying - it's not usually much for a simple test. Rough guess .. between 30 - 40€, perhaps less. Edit : Laboratoire d'Analyse is what you are looking for.

I have never been outside the health system here , so have always had a doctor that gave the ordonnance ( prescription)for blood tests.

I have never been outside the health system here , so have always had a doctor that gave the ordonnance ( prescription)for blood tests. As we are part of the French Health Service it is a sound idea to go via your Doctor and the prescription route for a couple of reasons : Your Doc gets to see the results automatically so can pick up on any problems. Your blood test is paid for so you don't have a bill .. except for the small deduction by CPAM
For Johnny the situation is different .. he isn't part of the Health Service here, so he doesn't have a MT so he would end up by paying 2 bills .. one for the rdv with the Doc and one for the actual test.

Would it be covered by my GHIC (EHIC)card I wonder?

You don’t need to be in the French health system to have a GP - we registered with ours not long after buying our apartment, so about 14 years ago. I made it clear when we registered that we lived in the UK and that our apartment was a holiday home.

Would it be covered by my GHIC (EHIC)card I wonder? As even some inpatients struggle to get some Hospitals to accept EHIC cards the answer is debatable. Usually EHIC is reserved for accidents and emergencies.
Elsie is right .. even if your EHIC was accepted it is probable that you would be given a 'feuille' detailing the costs of the Dr and the Lab and then you would try to claim from the UK.

Claiming does not need to be done from the UK, the French have a long established and efficient system for processing refunds or better still not charging in the first place for foreigners who have coverage via a reciprocal agreement like the EHIC/GHIC
You go with your GHIC, a RIB from your French bank and a utility bill etc to the local social securité office and they will register you with the French system issuing a numéro de securité sociale, this will be a temporary number (starting with a 5 IIRC) valid till the expiry date of the GHIC.
From which point on you will be treated as having a carte vitale although you will not get one, with most hospitals, pharmacies, Médecins etc you will only be asked to pay the unreimbursed portion of the acte or medication, if you have to pay the full amount then you will be given a feuille de soins which you submit to the CPAM (I just put mine in the local letterbox and they forward them) and you will be remboursed direct to your French bank account.
You will not be given a carte vitale but its the numéro de securité sociale that counts, my carte vitale is lost and has not yet been replaced but I can still access all services using my SS number and have nothing to pay, you will not be able to create an account Ameli so cannot access the démarches from that portal, the big problem is that you cannot print out an attestation de droites and neither can the local Secu office (computer says no) but they can give you a screen print showing your SS number and how long your droites are open which is accepted by hospitals etc.
You should as a priority register with a local médecin consultations were around €25 (I no longer pay so am not current) of which you are liable for about €6.60, if you have got your social securité number then the €6ish is all you will pay.

I suggest that you do this now Johnny so as to have access to the local médecin without thinking "is my problem really worth the €25 and perhaps further costs?" and to have access to any specialists etc that he/she may refer you to.
Above all you want to avoid the situation of needing urgent care, being taken by ambulance to a hospital, being in pain and struggling with French when from the second your situation is stabilised all the attention is turned towards "how are we going to get paid by this person?"
Just having the SS number and date of expiration of droites written on a post-it note removes all of that stress.

AMAZING what you can find online !?
Your pharmacist has a test to measure cholesterol levels. For this, it has a device (similar to a blood glucose meter) that measures your cholesterol level from a single drop of blood taken from your fingertip. The test is simple, painless and the result is communicated to you immediately!
If you wish, you can also buy your own cholesterol self-test to do at home! For example, there is the My Cholesterol Test which you can easily find in stock in your nearby pharmacies
