AMAZING what you can find online !? If you wish, you can also buy your own cholesterol self-test to do at home! For example, there is the My Cholesterol Test which you can easily find in stock in your nearby pharmacies Just the thing .. simply need to find a pharmacy that might stock the tester .. or can order it for Johnny 😊

The DIY suggestion looks like a quick and easy solution to get a fast, cheap and probably fairly accurate result. My tests on the NHS are always from a fasting blood test and normally about once a year since my cholesterol has dropped significantly. The test gives a detailed breakdown showing the various types of cholesterol. I wonder if a diy test will give you the full information you require. Without prying into your personal affairs, can you say why you think you need it now rather than on your next trip to UK.

It doesn't even breakdown good Vs bad cholesterol (whatever that means)

Just having a full blood test, I wondered about good and bad cholesterol.
I guess there would be options - bad, good or the both..

Claiming does not need to be done from the UK, the French have a long established and efficient system for processing refunds or better still not charging in the first place for foreigners who have coverage via a reciprocal agreement like the EHIC/GHIC You go with your GHIC, a RIB from your French bank and a utility bill etc to the local social securité office and they will register you with the French system issuing a numéro de securité sociale, this will be a temporary number (starting with a 5 IIRC) valid till the expiry date of the GHIC. From which point on you will be treated as having a carte vitale although you will not get one, with most hospitals, pharmacies, Médecins etc you will only be asked to pay the unreimbursed portion of the acte or medication, if you have to pay the full amount then you will be given a feuille de soins which you submit to the CPAM (I just put mine in the local letterbox and they forward them) and you will be remboursed direct to your French bank account. You will not be given a carte vitale but its the numéro de securité sociale that counts, my carte vitale is lost and has not yet been replaced but I can still access all services using my SS number and have nothing to pay, you will not be able to create an account Ameli so cannot access the démarches from that portal, the big problem is that you cannot print out an attestation de droites and neither can the local Secu office (computer says no) but they can give you a screen print showing your SS number and how long your droites are open which is accepted by hospitals etc. You should as a priority register with a local médecin consultations were around €25 (I no longer pay so am not current) of which you are liable for about €6.60, if you have got your social securité number then the €6ish is all you will pay. Many thanks indeed pcpa, how do i find out where my local social securité office is? I doubt there is one in the village, we have a pharmacy and a maison de sante.........I have googled but not coming up with much luck. I guess it can't be done online?

Walk into any laboratory. For €5 - €10 you should get one with results emailed to you. 12-24 hours though.

Are you going to use your travel insurance or EHIC card for travel (?) from the UK for this?
