Pinched this from another Forum. Basically it is a thread to put things on that don't really need a thread of their own.
To start:-
We have a bay window in our bedroom and we always sleep with a window open. It is limited to a 4" gap by a steel security tie. Imagine our surprise 4 days ago at 5am when there was an almighty kerfuffle and the curtains were being knocked every which way! Opening them we saw a young blackbird that had come through the gap and was panicking. I got hold of it and put it back through the narrow gap.
Lo and behold the next morning exactly the same happened at the same time! Closed the window that evening and convinced it that it wasn't a good idea. All ended now.

We had a very similar event. Two nights running we awoke to find a large bat circling the bedroom above our heads. Only for us the windows were closed. A real puzzle how he got in.

My wife and I decided to go for “bagged, burnt and bottled” for our funerals. All paid for in advance. No family or friends just the crematorium staff.
When our ashes get home we have agreed what to do with them. I am being disposed of in thirds :- first third to a Munro, Cairn Toul, second to a valley where our family had three allotments in the 1950’s onwards and lastly in the back garden at her Mum's where I proposed to my wife to be.
If my wife goes first, perish the thought, she wants her ashes to go over the Millau Viaduct, something we never managed in all our trips to France then to have her ashes scattered in her beloved back garden here at home.

Do you have an open chimney? No. At the moment the bedroom is an oven but we still won't be opening the windows (Velux) overnight in case of uninvited guests.

Cheap, effective tip for cooling a bedroom if no air-con or fan. Freeze plastic bottles nearly full of tap water then place them round the room at night.

Chapeau for sorting all this out in advance. I am being disposed of in thirds When deciding what to do with my husband's ashes I discovered here in France it's against the law for the ashes to be be separated. Likewise, they must not be kept at home. On both counts it's clear no-one will be knocking at the door to ask how they've been disposed of. www.cpfm.fr/on-repartir-cendres-dun-defunt-plusieurs-urnes/"Depuis décembre 2008, la loi oblige à considérer les cendres issues de la crémation d’un défunt comme un « tout ».

We are on a fixed rate energy contract until December next year. Our company has just sent us a projection for 12 months usage (including last winter) and it comes in at ~ £450! We keep seeing projections on both TV and the press that many people will be paying £3000. What the hell are they doing to use that much power? In fact nearly half of our costs are down to the 52p daily standing charge.

I get suspicious when I see the word furious in print. Especially if capital letters or bold highlighting are involved. news.sky.com/story/flight-chaos-legal-battle-looms-as-emirates-rejects-heathrows-demand-it-cuts-services-12651782"We planned ahead to get to a state of readiness to serve customers and travel demand, including rehiring and training 1,000 A380 pilots in the past year. "LHR chose not to act, not to plan, not invest. Now faced with an 'airmageddon' situation due to their incompetence and non-action, they are pushing entire burden - of costs and the scramble to sort the mess - to airlines and travellers. TPTB at Heathrow should jolly well show the Arabs just who is in the drivers seat.

Watched the French lasses playing football in the Euros. Still word perfect in "La Marseillaise". Still not sure if the L&M should be capital letters or not!

Back anyone but Sunak, Johnson begs defeated rivals ‘ A Johnson ally rejected the claim that he wants “anyone but Rishi” to win but admitted that the prime minister harboured resentment over Sunak’s “betrayal”. The friend said: “Of course he’s disappointed, of course he’s frustrated. He’s been pushing Rishi for a compelling growth strategy for many months without success. So alongside the sense of betrayal is a sense of regret about what could have already been well under way.’ www.thetimes.co.uk/article/91101146-03ba-11ed-aa15-45d37b45dc0d?shareToken=8338b91a686eb2af3c099e3ec5a77b6cPerhaps BE was not a good idea, assuming that any of this has a basis in the real world.

Bin men usually arrive around our area at 11.00. Today they arrived at 07.50. Talking to the lads they said that they had chatted to the paper pushers in the council offices and said that they were starting 4 hours early due to the hotter weather. No arguments from the office wallers.

Was that just for the brown bin today or will the grey bin be the same next week? TIA.
