Not to mention that she is also seems to have trouble with words of more than four letters and phrases of more than four words and is a hopeless actor. WTF she is doing where she is is beyond my imagination. Certainly looks like the Conservative membership have decided to give up politics and go into comedy.

beejay It is part of the natural assumption process that we are all prone to. How many times have you been driving down the motorway at close to the 130 limit and a German register car wizzes past. The natural reaction is something like, "Bl**dy German drivers" but in reality you have no idea of the nationality of the driver. If that does not apply, I am sure you can find equivalent situations.
The point you are trying to make isn't clear.
A border official is committed to checking those crossing a border and cannot make assumptions. As you imply, a border guard has no idea of the driver's nationality, or residency status, regardless of a car's registration plate. Pcpa seems to say that he drives through the checkpoint without showing paperwork (which he doesn't have) based on his car registration.

I can remember when French forums were places for discussions (OK often robust) and helping others, now they seem to be used to vent frustrations and for hurling abuse, as much as I hope that Mark is recovering well I hope he does not get to see what has become of his forum. As Mark/FFS reads the forum I feel positive that we, the mods, would have been informed if he was unhappy with how it was going during his absence.

The point is being missed here; the French were hauled over the coals for their disastrous mismanagement of the Liverpool footballers in Paris with the minister Darmanin particularly vilified for blaming them and not the French police. The chaos at Dover and Folkestone, caused largely by lack of French staff on duty is his or their petty revenge, but also shows lack of competence. Has it deliberately been set up by the minister who is reputed to be very anti- British? Not beyond the realms of possibility. Caused by Brexit, I doubt it; remember that the UK was never in the Schengen zone and passport controls could always be applied. I cross the Channel more than most mainly through the Tunnel and there has been a definite increase in delays caused by bottlenecks going through passport checks, caused by a lack of French staff.

I know what is supposed to happen but the experience of our offended member suggests - no doesn't suggest, it says absolutely that the rules are not always followed.

While not arguing with the facts Linda. I don't really think you can compare Newhaven sailings (3 per day) with Dover sailings (45 per day). I'm not arguing with that at all.. the problem is with Dover..it's location, infrastructure, road network, traffic planning etc. We were in the UK the Covid Christmas in 2020 and got stuck there longer than expected, and got a foretaste of all this for the HGVs..seeing literally miles and miles of lorries on the M20, drivers left with no toilet facilities, no food and drink. We saw lorries just abandoned in every free bit of space all over Kent. They've had 2 years to sort it out and by the looks of it, they have done nothing. They blamed France then and they are blaming France now. I have no sympathy, apart from the lorry drivers who are only trying to earn a living. If this doesn't get any better in the next couple of weeks then expect further problems with the essential supply chains between the UK and Europe. In the meantime, this is very good.

Seriously? If French passport controls are all manned,. which they now appear to be..what else do you expect them to do? And why should my tax, as a French tax payer, be used to make it easier for a few Brits to go on holiday, many of whom are not going to France anyway, but driving into other parts of Europe? Maybe the answer is to repeal the le Touquet agreement. Then delays getting into France will happen in Calais and the UK can deal with undocumented travellers as they arrive on UK soil, rather than in France as they currently do.

Checks may well have been more adhoc up until now because full implementation of Shengen border measures did not start until July. This should not be the case now, and from October the biometric system is supposed to come into force, leading to more potential delays.

Unless there are drastic improvements in the flow of traffic a Dover I'm sure there will be those in the UK who will be rethinking their holiday plans for 2023. And gîte owners and others in France, dependent on visitors from the UK, may well be rethinking their plans?

Yet again, wrong end of the stick! Some years ago France staggered the départ pour les vacances to reduce road chaos; is it beyond the wit and ability of UK schools and others to stagger their breaks to reduce the annual torture at Dover? And run ferries from Folkestone and Ramsgate again.

I'm not sure they can stagger Christmas/New Year, Easter, and some of the other school holidays very much. The French only stagger the Feb and April skiing holidays. The October, Christmas, May and summer holiday dates are the same for all regions. Folkestone and Ramsgate passenger ferries stopped because they were uneconomic year-round. More lorries to Ramsgate would be possible as the road network has improved significantly in recent years. Dover and Folkestone traffic would mostly follow the same routes.

As far as I am aware, UK school summer holidays are staggered. Is that relevant though as most families zoom off for a couple of weeks on average and that will be dictated by the parents' annual summer leave?

And run ferries from Folkestone and Ramsgate again. The French do still stagger school hols during the year but in general not the summer hols. UK schools also stagger their hols. Irish and Scottish schools along with private schools in England leave a week or two earlier than the public schools in England, Ramsgate silts up and is costly to keep clear, Sally Lines found that out and Folkestone is now the domain of the Eurotunnel.
Read up the £30+ million asked by the French to sort out more cabins to get the traffic through quicker, turned down by the UK, which the Dover port authorties also said was required but let's put the blame of the French as the UK papers tell us that and what a good job they did for Johnson keeping the lying toad in the job until as ever, a liar soon gets found out but normally a lot, lot quicker !
