Any recommendations for a pay as you go SIM card?
Particularly looking for one that that I can use every now and then, mostly to receive calls. Maybe something I can top up a couple of times per year.

I read recently on a forum somewhere the current best deal is 2€ a month with no contract. Free ?? The discussion was about network coverage so check which network reaches you before pulling the trigger.

Reglo mobile from LeClerc .. all online. Their mini tariff costs €1.50 per month and that includes €1.50 worth of calls if you need to use it. Uses the SFR network which has good coverage BUT as Aardvark says check the map of France to see which network is strongest where you are likely to be using the phone - either to receive or to make calls. www.reglomobile.fr/offres/formule-mini-plus.aspx

We use reglomobile on our small, cheap as possible, snap shut phones from Leclerc. For simply being available to reach by phone, they are ideal. They can be set up so that whenever the balance drops below a certain amount it is automatically topped up by a set amount direct from your bank.

Perfect, thanks. SFR seems to cover my house (garden anyway).
I will go ahead and get this one.

Recommended several years ago by PCPA on an old forum. It suits us fine. Limited data at that price, but we very rarely use the data. The only thing we had to do was put Eu10 on as a credit to allow us to call non-French numbers from it. There is an allowance to call French mobiles and landlines for the Eu.2.

In our house the 3 mobile phone users all have different arangements to suit their needs/usage... I use Reglo mobile and never had any problem. You don't lose credit at the end of the month like some others, which means I only need to top up about once a year. In the past 6 years I have used about 60 euros...as you can see, I'm not a heavy user! OH uses the 'free' 2 euros a month - he is a heavy user but his bills average about 10 euros a month, since I put a stop to the international calls! so that works well for him. Daughter is obsessed with and never off her phone and has a monthly paid contract with Orange, I don't know which contract or how much it costs, but she seems to think it's good value for money. None of us have any problem with network coverage and we live in a very rural area of france.
